Reuben Foster - LB - 49ers

The Mercury News reports MLB Reuben Foster "remains in good standing" with the 49ers.

Foster's status has been in question after getting arrested twice this offseason. "We’d love Reuben to be on this team," CEO Jed York said at the NFL owners meeting. "Everything has to be case-by-case. I know Reuben is very cognizant of where his position is right now." The 49ers plan to let Foster's legal situation play out before making a decision on him. If Foster avoids charges, he could still be suspended by the NFL.

I don't quite understand how the NFL can suspend a player if they aren't charged with anything. If they aren't charged doesn't that technically mean he didn't do what he is accused of?
So let's suspend a guy because someone accused him of something bad

Heard some rumblings this weekend that the DA is going to kind of throw the book at Foster. We'll see what happens, but fair chance he walks away with a felony conviction. I'm curious about the domestic violence charges. That's the sort of conduct that can range from fairly minor to really, really serious. Presumably it's not the latter or they wouldn't have let him out of custody, but it could be far less than that and still be serious to force the Niners' hand.

I think the NFL does its own investigation. If there is a video of a player physically harming someone but he gets off because of a technicality, the NFL will still suspend him.

Charged with causing great bodily injury due to rupturing her eardrum. If that's backed up by the medical records, that's bad news for him. Forget the likely suspension. He could be looking at some serious custody time.

It could be an aggressive filing by the DA that is intended to force a resolution on a lesser charge. But it's hard to see him walking away without a felony conviction on those types of charges, assuming the case resolves before trial.
