Arizona S Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles

Team captain that played in all 50 possible career games with 36 starts, mostly at their "Bandit" position (others at free safety) and was very productive. The downside was he missed SIXTY tackles in 4 years. Got better every year as a coverage guy but never was a good cover guy (their whole team struggled) - QBs had a passer rating of 118.2 throwing at him. The advanced numbers look really bad but you have to make a personal determination on how bad it is for him considering the other problems that were around him while he was there.

------------

Penn State DT Kevin Givens - declared as a junior

One of the better pass rush productivity guys in his class but it's almost exclusively from the inside. He was one of the worst when rushing from the outside. 22.2 snaps per pressure rushing from the inside (28th) and 166.5 snaps per pressure rushing from the outside (137th). 166.5 snaps per pressure using the bull rush (137th).

Over 20 hurries in each of the last 3 seasons (14 combined sacks).

Almost played in more snaps this past season than he had in the previous two seasons combined.

----------------

Wake Forest S Cameron Glenn

Used all over the field.

Had the most stops against the run in 2017 of any ACC safety. His 8% run stop % was 2nd in this safety class.

Dominated against NC State this year.

0.44 yards per coverage snap (21st in his class)

51st in tackling efficiency. 31 missed tackles in the last two years and 41 in 4 years. (Almost 2,400 career snaps).

QBs only had a 84 QB rating throwing to his coverage area and gave up only 5 TDs in 4 years in his coverage area.

-----------------

West Georgia WR Malik Henry

Lost his brother who was his best friend at a young age. Wants to coach one day.

30 catches and 20 catches the last two years.

Special team experience. Saw him block a punt vs. Miss. State.

Ran a good number of intermediate/deep routes. It was a lot of run route, catch ball, run for 5 yards, get tackled. Over and over.

Not sure he does any one thing anywhere near special.

------------------------

Iowa G Ross Reynolds

Only 1.5 years experience playing time.

92.4% run block success (PFF) - 13th best in his class

Good on the move, struggles with inside pressure. Very good against power moves.

Aggressive, physical, and nasty.

Hands on you, you're done.

One of the highest graded run block players in his class.

----------------------------

Stephen F. Austin LS Chris Wilkerson

He almost pursued a tennis career. Took part in the Texans local pro day.

I'm not really excited about any of the UDFA signings so far except for Ross Reynolds. It's a VERY, VERY long shot, and I wouldn't have drafted him either, but he probably is the best candidate that could be an option for the team when they rid themselves of this coaching staff. Obviously the chances are low a UDFA will make it through a coaching change and then stick with a 2nd staff but if I had to pick one of all the guys I've seen so far, my vote goes to Reynolds.

Also represents Tim Harris.

Undersized. Runs well, good motor, and has decent instincts. 87 tackles or more in 3 of his 4 years. Can't disengage yet and gets eaten up vs. size. Advanced metrics are not kind to him and his basic numbers make him look more productive than he was. Very good character and well spoken.

I realize none of those DBs are likely to make the roster, but I'd love to see more competition at a position of weakness. Rather than basically being guaranteed roster spots, as they are at this point, I'd like our young DBs to feel like they're fighting for their roster lives.

My view on Gould: give him permission to seek a trade. See what his market is and go from there. If he wants to go to Chicago, see if he can fetch a third next year. If they won't, well, he has no basis to complain.

I was watching some Tevin Coleman videos because I'm really looking forward to him playing for us. This game against Tampa ...Kwon Alexander probably had nightmares haha.

Lot of damage as a WR against LBs. Can't wait.

Shocker: Niners not picking up Garnett's fifth-year option:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/05/02/49ers-wont-pick-up-option-on-joshua-garnett/

Oddly, this article blames the pick on Chip Kelly. That had Baalke written all over it, and I'm guessing Kelly wasn't thrilled as Garnett wasn't a good fit for his offense anyway. Man, what a disappointing pick. And one that pretty much everyone on this board panned as soon as it was made. Really wonder what these FO guys are doing sometimes. But hey, it's not like Xavien Howard went one pick after the spot we traded out of. Or Chris Jones went with that pick. Or Michael Thomas went ten picks later. Ugh. Trading up for Garnett and Foster is just devastating at this point.

Garnett had bad luck with injuries. If we are going to with Ward and Tartt another chance, garrnett might.as well. Especially since Person is in front.of him on the roster and he is average on his best day. I thought he looked pretty good on the limited time he played..understand not picking up fifth year option.

Sure, we should give him every opportunity to compete for a job - even a starting job - this offseason. I'm just not holding my breath. His first missed season wasn't about injury. It was about being a bad fit for the offense. We heard about how he remade his body, let's see if he's athletic enough to play in the scheme. It would be great if he can be an upgrade over Person, I'm just not holding my breath. Last time he got sustained playing time, he was a liability in pass blocking.

This is kind of a trip. Apparently Nick Bosa's great-grandfather was one of the heaviest mob bosses in US history. Who knew?

Odd article about Kentavius Street:

https://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2019/05/02/non-rookie-might-be-most-intriguing-player-at-49ers-rookie-mini-camp/?utm_source=49ersWebZone&utm_medium=dt&utm_campaign=affref

No argument with the overall premise, that Street is an intriguing guy. But is he really challenging to be the starting NT at 280? It's safe to assume he may have bulked up a bit (seem to recall reading that recently), but even adding 10-15 pounds, he would be very undersized for the nose. Also, the Niner's DL is top-heavy? There will be at least one first-rounder riding the pine at all times. Ronald Blair is a very solid player. We've got a few interesting young players who were later selections. Sheldon Day played pretty well last year and may not make the roster. And that's to say nothing of Street, a guy who was taken in the 4th (granted that seemed like a heck of a reach) following a serious injury. It should be a very good - but also a very deep - unit.

Cool. I would say Lucky Luciano was much bigger mob figure than Accardo. I've watched all the mob documentaries

I totally forgot about Kentavius Street, he is basically a draft pick for us this year.

Return to San Francisco 49ers
