Anybody on this forum go to games often or can help out?
My wife and I are planning on traveling in to our first game, with our schedules it looks like it will be the Chiefs game. Thinking about getting in late Friday night and leaving Monday morning. I honestly have no clue where to stay, we want to do some sightseeing in San Francisco if possible so I was thinking we stay somewhere in the area Friday night and maybe Saturday night then head down to Santa Clara and stay in that area Sunday night and fly out of San Jose.

I almost need a crash course to be honest lol.

Nice! Should be a great time. I haven't really done the tourist experience in SF - at least in terms of staying at a hotel, etc. - so not sure I have a ton of great advice, but I think the overall plan is a good one. Stay in SF, check out the sites, then head to Santa Clara or San Jose. SFO isn't that far from the stadium (30 miles or so), so you'd probably be fine to fly in and out of there if there would otherwise be a big price difference in flights.

There are a lot of downtown hotels that are all probably fine. Try to avoid the Tenderloin (https://www.quora.com/What-streets-define-the-Tenderloin-neighborhood-in-San-Francisco). Other than that, I'd probably try to stay somewhere along the Embarcadero. Depends a little bit what tourist sites appeal. You could probably also find an AirBnB or VRBO or something like that. If you're going that route, it might be worth looking at Pacific Heights, the Marina or something like that. You're probably going to encounter some homelessness wherever you are, but the worst of it tends to be concentrated in a few areas.

I don't have much in terms of Santa Clara or San Jose recs, but there are plenty of convention centers and hotels in that area, and certainly hotels in either downtown SC or SJ.

Been trying to do some research and Nob Hill area & Fisherman's Wharf area seem to be popular recommendations for areas to stay. It seems like public transportation is great in the city.

I think we decided to go with the Cowboys Sunday Night Football game instead of the Chiefs just based on work schedules, gives us a few more hours to do some stuff too.

I've only been to one game at Levi's, and it was the Thanksgiving game against the Hawks (wife won a drawing at work and we got to watch from the corporate suite). That was pretty unusual for a bunch of reasons (premium parking, not worried about food and drink, evening game, unusual traffic patterns, etc.), so can't really weigh in on a good game-day strategy.

Agreed Nob Hill and Fisherman's Wharf would be good areas to stay. Public transit isn't bad, but not stellar, either.

Haven't been to SF in years. Used to work downtown bordering Union Square for a few years after college graduation during the md to late 90s. . SF has really gone down over the years due to the chronic homeless and other problems. Union Square has a record vacancy rate and long time city land marks like the flagship Macy's department stores are in the process of closing. The large mall on Market is already closed. Fisherman's Wharf area might be a better place to be. I used public transportation for years to get in and out of downtown and the Peninsula. it is really nice having both CalTrans and BART available to take into SF. I used both for years. Public transportation is not as good trying to get to the west side of town or the Wharf. You would have to transfer onto the metro or Uber or Taxi into those areas. If I was going to a game I would probably stay somewhere in between on the Peninsula or in San Jose/Santa Clara.
