2024 NFL Season
Oh, hey. They called a Chiefs OT for holding. What a concept.

Dumb penalties by the Ravens. I turned.the game on 10:00 minute mark of the 4th. Did Jackson's passing look like that the whole game?

I didn't catch the whole game, but to my eyes, Jackson bailed out really early a lot. He was very jumpy back there, and took off when it seemed like he had room to step up in the pocket.

Was Mahomes trying to impersonate Twiki with his Kermit voice during his snap cadence last night?

At least it's not annoying like this guy was for most of last season Lol

I really wanted Baltimore to win but Jackson had to choke and that is how he was in the 4th quarter. He reminds me a little of Russell Wilson where constantly bailed from pockets and trying to extend plays with his legs. He missed two open receivers on consecutive plays in the end zone. The first one in the end zone with the tight end QBs can make a mistake on but the second one the guy was wide open in the end zone and a stationary target and Jackson just airmailed that pass,. Probably both were misses because Jackson was running around and did not set his feet right before throwing the pass.

Yeah, same boat. I was pulling for the Ravens. I didn't love how Jackson played in the red zone to end the game. Sure, he put a ball in play that could have tied it up, but they really had multiple opportunities to do it. He missed the two guys you note. He also wasted quite a lot of time running around. No reason they couldn't have squeezed four plays out of that 18 seconds if he pulled the trigger faster on first and second down.

Rooting between two teams who had beaten the 49ers in their last 3 SB after winning 6 straight is a tough pill and don't like either team last night for that reason. Only team I am rooting from the AFC is being led by a former 49ers HC with far more success with the red and gold with less talent to boot. The 49ers has proven they cannot win without loads of talent under Kyle.CrimsonCrew wrote:Pattersonca65 wrote:CrimsonCrew wrote:

Jackson has improved as a passer but he's just not a natural thrower of the football so he's always going to have those couple plays that he should have but doesn't make.

For me, I guess Baltimore is more in the review mirror. Not that I like Baltimore but KC is the NFL darling team and all that nonsense with having to look at Taylor Swift every five minutes. Rooting for them to lose.

Re: 2024 NFL Season
The KC super bowl is a lot harder for me to get over. They had a chance to beat the Ravens, and arguably should have, but that was a good game where they frankly got pretty lucky to get back into it. They very clearly SHOULD have beaten the Chiefs, but just had so many things go against them. A freak injury to Greenlaw, coupled with the injury to Feliciano. A fluke turnover on a bad punt. KC recovering four of their five fumbles. The officials simply refusing to call KC's OL for incessant holding, including on crucial plays where the hold dramatically affected the outcome of the play.
And then the stuff that was more self-inflicted. Going empty backfield too often when we couldn't stop their interior pass rush. Throwing the ball against the most run-friendly defensive alignment I have seen literally in my life of football viewership on a crucial 3rd and 5. Taking the ball first in OT.
We didn't come out ready against Baltimore, but we let the KC game slip away in a pretty remarkable way.

Harbaugh had a pretty damn talented team when they went to the SB. Kaepernick was pretty unstoppable that year. Gore was great. Boldin, Crabtree, and Davis were a very strong, complementary receiving trio, with Randy Moss as the fourth option. And the OL just wasn't comparable to ours. Staley is no Trent Williams, but he was a damn good player who will get some discussion for HOF though I don't expect him to make it. But the other four guys, come on. Iupati, Goodwin, Boone, and Davis all playing at their peak. Any one of those guys would have been our second-best OL pretty comfortably last year.
On defense, the Cowboy was riding high (though he was playing hurt in the playoffs; if he wasn't, I think we win this game). McDonald was a very underrated player. Bowman, Willis, A. Smith, and Brooks were an insane LB group. And Rogers, Brown, Whitner, and Goldson certainly rival our DBs last year after Huf went down.

Fair enough but Boldin, Crabtree, Davis and Gore are nowhere near the playmaking abilities of Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle and McCaffrey. Not even close but they were able to perform at a high level for Jim Harbaugh. So if Jim can reached the SB this season without their top 3 playmakers in Ekeler, Allen and Williams, all still under 30, then you know its all about the Jim Harbaugh culture on winning.CrimsonCrew wrote:WentzerWuver wrote:Rooting between two teams who had beaten the 49ers in their last 3 SB after winning 6 straight is a tough pill and don't like either team last night for that reason. Worse skill position players, markedly better OL. I'd say that largely offsets. Niners averaged over 155 yards on the ground that season, and 218 in the postseason. Even removing Kaepernick's numbers, they ran for 130+ yards per game in the postseason. Without Purdy's totals, this Niner team was under 100 YPG on the ground in the playoffs. And they were probably better at run blocking than pass blocking.
Certainly if Harbaugh reached the SB this year he would deserve major props. I'm not holding my breath, but we'll see.

Re: 2024 NFL Season
It's worth noting that, despite all the praise for him, Harbaugh's QB has arguably never won a big game. He was out of the hunt before he rattled off a series of wins as a rookie. His second year, he lost to the Raiders in a must-win game to cost them the playoffs, though he did manage to come back and tie the game before losing in OT. In his third year, he finally made the playoffs, but lost a game in which the opposing QB threw four INTs.
If Harbaugh can turn that team into SB winners, hats off to him for sure.

Yes, wish Gore was able to run it in on his last carry for his 2nd TD which would likely had won the game as the Ravens offense had stalled in the final quarter. Better yet, let Gore carry the rock all 4 downs near the goal cause if anyonendeserved a ring, it was Frank Gore. And to not even draft Gore Jr is a crying shame.CrimsonCrew wrote:It's worth noting that, despite all the praise for him, Harbaugh's QB has arguably never won a big game. The play that was the heart-breaker in that one was the keeper by Kap that was whistled dead when we called TO as the play clock expired. It looked like we had it pretty well blocked up and it had a chance to go. Harbaugh had chronic problems with delay of game penalties.

Re: 2024 NFL Season
Can't say I was overly impressed by either the Packers or Eagles last night except for Barkley.
Eagles will still be a serious threat in the NFC but their defense is still pretty meh and the Packers left points on the board that they could've had and the Packers probably should've won that game.
Was not really impressed by either QB and both had INTs that even Jimmy G would probably say were terrible decisions. QB rankings had been a hot topic of debate during the offseason but I would put Purdy ahead of Love at this current point in time. If Love can iron out some of his inconsistencies and raise his floor I'd say you can have an argument for Love over Purdy but I just think Love has too many lows compared to Purdy for me to choose him over Purdy.
Love being hurt could be a big blow to the Packers though. Didn't seem like a season ending type of injury but didn't seem like one you ice up and be out there the next week either. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up having a high ankle sprain which means he'd likely be out at least a month and that might put the Packers in a hole they can't dig out of because I don't think they have the kind of roster that can ride out a staring QB injury.

Saquon Barkley 3 TD Eagles debut has the best week 1 game of his career. Giants are idiots for paying Danny Dimes his huge bag but treated Saquon like a scrub who can be replaced with any back.
