Did we overpay for Clements?

Since this is dangerously close to the FA signings thread, my feelings will not be hurt if this gets merged/locked
Clements got a 7 year, 64 million dollar deal with $22 million of that money guaranteed.

No. The nfl is different than other sports league in the fact that not all the money is guarenteed. I highly doubt he sees all of that 80 million. Great buy by the Niners

Bad teams have to overpay. Do you want a guy or not? Clements had options. He needed a compelling reason to come here. Nolan gave it to him. It didn't kill the cap situation at all. There was flexibility enough to sign other free agents and keep Gore around for a while.
Once the team starts winning, you'll see guys restructure deals to help the cap situation. I'm willing to bet that this deal gets re-structured within three years anyhow.

I don't think he was really overpaid, at least not by enough to complain about it.
As Hopper said, it doesn't hurt our cap situation. So as I always say in situations like this:
IT'S NOT YOUR BLEEPIN MONEY!!

(not aimed at the OP, just to ppl in general who gripe about contracts like it was coming out of their own pocket)

We should of gave all that money to Barlow last offseason.
