VD's role to be expanded.

According to PFW, offensive coordinator Jim Hostler is looking to greatly expand Vernon Davis' role this season, looking to use him as more of the focal point for the offense, lining him up as a split end, in the slot, in motion, and even as a rusher.

Could get interesting.

This could be very interesting. I dont think he should be the foacl point of our offense but I would like to see them use him more than last year, when he was in.

He showed some of his flashes of potential. His hands can use some work but he's strong, can break tackles, and surprisingly quick for his figure. I thought he should have gotten more touches last season, the guy can be real good end-zone threat if we use him well. Hopefully we'll see this when the season starts.

The whole reason he was such a prospect was because he was the freak of nature type with wide reciever speed in a linemans body.

It'd be nice if he could catch a ball every now and again. That one handed attempt crap has got to go.

Davis does a quick turn and catches the ball just as his shoulders get completely square to quarterback Alex Smith. He then quickly turns before two defensive backs and Lawson can close on him, and looks like he has a good chance to break away if this were a live-game situation.

A year ago, none of this might have happened. It's not that Davis didn't possess the raw physical skills to run the route or catch the ball. It's just that someone would run over and knock the pass away, or the defenders would close so quickly that Davis was obviously not going to get away.

Maiocco: Davis has been virtually unstoppable in practice.

So, either Davis is going to tear it up this season or our defense is pathetic.

well, he was injured for about half the season, and QB-receiver relationships are all about building rhythm. With Jackson, Gore, Battle, Jacobs, Lelie, Battle, Robinson and Davis, Smith is going to have a lot of options. Seems to me like the numbers will be spread around.

Gore and Jackson, in my mind, will be, initially at least, Smith's primary targets. I'd imagine that Davis will be right behind Battle, when the season starts.
