The Play Calling
Is it just me or has the play calling been absoultely horrible. I understand the O-line hasnt been playing up to potential, but throw the damn ball down field to keep 8 men out of the box. I understand we are a run 1st team, but show alex some damn confidence in him. 4th quarter, 3 and 6, already in field goal ranger, why run the ball, let Alex throw it. ANyways, just wondering wat everyone else thought as i think we are going to miss norv more that i thought.

Nobody should be "given" a chance as you put it. You "earn" a chance. So far, Smith has done nothing to prove he can handle more. Now I agree 100% the playcalling needs to change. We need to find more creative ways to get Gore and Davis the ball; however, you have to do so without putting Smith into spots he can handle and so far it seems like there are not many spots like that.

The coaches need to find a way to make our offense more effective, or we will lose a bunch of games.
Nolan shouldn't be looking at Smith saying "You haven't earned the chance to pass the ball yet." Nolan and Hostler have to maximize Smith's talents and use Gore, Davis, Jackson, etc in a way that gets us some more points and controls the ball more. Move Smith out of the pocket, maybe, and maybe let him sneak a few times early in the game. He's an excellent scrambler, and while we maybe don't want to have that be a focal point of our attack, it would be nice if opposing defenses had to respect his ability to take off.

I believe there is a lot to that Apres. The choaching staff needs to better use Smith and the O. The biggest problem with the O imo is we have no #1 WR. Jackson is a very good #2 but not a go-to guy. Neither is Battle. When your top two guys are #2 wideouts at best, the O will sputter at times.
That just means the coaching staff has to be more creative. Instead of always running Gore, dump the ball off to him. Lineup Davis in the backfield and hand the ball off to him. Set some screan passes for Davis. Get Smith out of the pocket. Gore and Davis should get 30 touches a game between the two because they are the best weapons. Right now, there is no creativity in our O and that goes along way to making Smith look like a really bad QB.

Yeah I definitely agree with Apres as well. He has been making good passes, its just a matter of ball control really. I have no idea why we don't run more PA roll-outs, or scrambles for that matter. The bottom line is we won the game, but it seems we've been getting pretty lucky as well.
Only time will tell. I can only assume that the coaches are thinking the same thing.
