Since this season is basiccaly over and that even steve young and bill parcells and all the people onn mnf say that smith is a bust ......
1. trade smith to atl for there 1st round pick and take andre woodson qb. kentucky. He is tall strong qb that will be a star.
Im not if atl would do this but alex needs to go and atl needs a qb.
2. then with the pick from indy take gosder cherilus ot from boston college.
3. then with the our early pick in the 2nd round take frank okum dt from texas
4. then in the fa pick up either bernard berrian or pat crayton
5. fire nolan and hostler and try to bring in marty schottemhimer
also the rb from texas jamaal charles is very good and i think we should try to pick him up in the 3rd
im not sure of any of this could possibly happen but hey its better than wat we got

During the offseason the 9ers spent money to get Clements, Lewis and Banta-Cain but forgot the 9ers also need more talented playmakers at the offensive side, than Darrell Jackson and Ashley Lelie???
Next year's priorities are to improve the O-line so it will help Gore's running game. So we need to draft someone that could replace Larry Allen and Bryant Young if they choose to retire. We should use the free agency to get an experienced DE and OL if it's possible. Then get a stud WR and athletic FS in the draft or even from last year's draft. (Dwayne Jarrett or Sidney Rice)
Another is getting an experienced offensive coordinator like Marty Schottenheimer or go after high powered offensive college head coach.
As far as the QB situation, it's too easy to say that Alex Smith is a bust but do agree that Smith's throws were absolutely horrible. They were either underthrown or overthrown. If I was the GM, I'd target a FA QB I'd take my chances with Chad Pennington or even Rex Grossman. With Grossman, you'd never criticize the guy for not having an arm for the deep ball. Pennington is much more accurate passer than Smith.
49ers mgmt also has to get better Wideout talents if they are going to replace him if Smith is not he future 49er QB for them.
On the bright side,Patrick Willis and Manny Lawson are going to be studs. I wish I could say the same for Kwame Harris.

I think if we had signed Byron Leftwich, there would be a much better safety blanket at QB, obviously. Smith has gotten 3 years of practically full playing time, enough to prove what he can do. I think we can give him one more year and see what he does. But if he sucks next year, Alex is not going to be our future QB, people need to face that. But Alex is already a disappointment for being a #1, and we have to admit that mistake. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be proven wrong and see Alex be third in line after Joe and Steve, but I think we know that's not going to happen.
I don't know what we would have to lose if we just tried out Shaun Hill in a game. Maybe he could be decent, it's not like things would get way worse. Just try it out for a game or even a quarter to see what happens
Pennington wouldn't be too bad, although he isn't mobile and is kind of injury-prone. Grossman seems way too fragile mentally, and do you really want more Smith-Like inconsistency?
Hostler is terrible, and Nolan is really getting short-sighted. He still talks like we have the capacity to finish 9-7 and that we're really working hard to make strides. I would like Nolan a lot more if he just put it out there that we need to make adjustments and that we are struggling a bit right now, and we have to improve this offseason. First step is recognizing and acknowledging the problem.
I don't see any big name coordinators coming here (i.e. Marty Shottenheimer) simply because why would they want to come here. College offensive coach is a better bet IMO.
O-Line we just need better people, don't know what else to say about that.
One thing I hate on defense though is how we play off the WR's a lot. We get killed on outside routes a ton and it frustrates me so much. We need to bump and run more.
Jackson can stay, but Lelie hasn't been used at all. Something like 6 catches on the year? Thing is, we haven't seen what he can do because Alex can't get the ball to our guys.
Vernon? He's wasting away because we aren't utilizing him. It doesn't help that he's injury-prone.
We're going to have a late-1st round pick unless we trade, but we need to target QB or O-Line with our first pick regardless. If we want a QB, the only way to get a better prospect would be to trade up (Woodson, Brohm, Ryan). There are some decent O-Line guys we can get late first round.
I would hate to be a GM.
