awesome signing, wish it was a 2 year deal..........as far as drafting a reciever, we all no they rarely make an impract their rookie year, and if they are ready, it shouldnt be too hard for the rookie to pass Jackson and lelie on depth chart anyways. Don Nelson isnt coaching this team so the rookies get a fair chance.

I think it depends on how much they think of Hill. It was hard to get a gauge on him last year. I suppose they could still draft a WR if they plan on getting rid of Lelie, Jackson, Battle, or Hill.

Rookie Wr's rarely do make an impact immediately so it probably was better off that the Niners are rebuilding their Wr core through free agency.

They have to rebuild the offensive line with the draft though. Besides Baas, Staley and maybe Synder, the offensive is swiss cheese thin. A pass rusher on defense is also still needed.

Good pickup, 1 yr deal makes it low risk. if he does well during the season the 49ers could give him an extension.

DJax was cut, so that lightens the glut a bit. WR is back on the draft board. I'm not convinced Lelie will be around for opening week.

I know I may get bashed here for saying this; however, I really hope SF takes Hawkins (WR, CAL) with their 2nd round pick (o-line with the 1st rounder). I can just see Hawkins being to SF what Steve Smith was to the Giants last year. The Giants do not win the SB without Smith throughout the postseason.

If we went something like Johnson and Bruce as 1 and 2 and then Hill and Hawkins at 3 and 4 (not a Battle fan) with Gore and Davis (Davis has this year to prove his is not a bust) then our O should be middle of the pack NFL imo.

I don't think this means Niners don't go WR high in the draft. I'd assume it's a priority area (given the combination of OC/system dependent on the position with a horrible cast) and especially given Jackson's release, I'm actually pretty sure they still go WR fairly high, 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounds, I'd guess.

I think they will stick with the philosophy of best available player, which I prefer. If it happens to be a WR, sweet.

I like the signing, he's a big WR and played well last season as the third stringer on the Cardinals. He's quite talented (17th overall pick in 03) and only 27 years old. Signing him for one year allows us to see how well he does and re-sign him or choose not to depending on how well he plays.

I wonder how Jason Hill will fair this year. I thought he was going to be a great player, but he didn't do much his rookie year. Now he is behind Johnson, Bruce, and Battle.

Love this signing, hopefully this will work out a lot better than last years WR signings.
