Roster Changes

Post#1 » by radtech » Fri Dec 26, 2008 1:59 am

With another wasted season, some roster changes need to be made.

Released

Alex Smith, not the QB of the future
DeShaun Foster, cost 2 million this year
Barry Sims, little better than Kwame Harris
Jonas Jennings, always injured

Abrayu Franklin, has he made any plays this year
Walt Harris, past his prime, lost a step
Mark Roman, gives up big plays every game
Tully Banta Cain, is he even playing

I like to trade

Nate Clements, why, highest paid but shows little results. He plays big against the run. But it always seems he gives up big plays every game. This shut down corner gets beaten way too often. If he made half his contract he still be overrated. Trade him to the Pats for their first pick.

Vernon Davis, drops everything thrown his way, makes some plays, but is he worth the distraction?
Trade him to the Lions for a third rounder.

Jennings, Banta-Cain, and Sims are likely not coming back for sure. Shawntae Spencer is likely another cut candidate. He's a solid corner when healthy but he is never on the field. Smith seems open to coming back with a massive paycut, so odds are good that he's back as the #2 QB. Franklin is a decent NT because he's high effort but I think they could try to improve at that position because its vital in running a 3-4. I need to look into their cap situation but if they have enough for Haynesworth, they should look into it.

I wouldn't trade Clements because I don't think there is anyone better on the team really. Tarrell Brown seems to have good potential to make some sort of impact next season, probably at nickelback. And Vernon Davis won't fetch a 3rd round pick.
