My top-10 Mock Draft
1. Detroit- Matt Stafford
Apparently Detroit never made any serious offers to get in on Cassell or Cutler. I think that says it all. BTW, if Stafford doesn't get picked here the Lions will be starting Daunte Culpepper. Not a good way to start your first season if you are a new head coach and GM. Not to mention, they need to utilize Calvin Johnson as much as possible, making Stafford the easy pick.
2. Rams- Jason Smith
Released Orlando Pace, have needed an OT for several years now. It will be Smith or Monroe at this pick and I think its Smith since he is more athletic and has more potential to be elite than Monroe.
3. Chiefs- Eugene Monroe
Must protect their new investment Matt Cassell and get Larry Johnson back to a Pro Bowl level. Monroe played next to Branden Albert, their #1 pick last year. Seems like a natural pick.
4. Seahawks- Aaron Curry
The Hawks have been penciled in to take Crabtree here, but the team already has a #1 guy with Housmanzadeh (sic?) and some decent #2's with Deion Branch and Bobby Engram. They need a playmaker on defense, especially with the trade of Julian Peterson. Curry should be an impact player immediately.
5. Browns- Everette Brown
Simply put the Browns need a pass rusher, as the team only had 17 sacks all of last season. Should make for a dynamic LB corps next to Wimberly and D'Qwell Jackson. A lot of teams have Orakpo as the better prospect, but I think Mangini will be skeptical after he picked the uber-athletic but big time bust Vernon Gholston last season. Brown is a more natural and experienced football player, so he gets the nod.
6. Bengals- Andre Smith
The Browns are thin on the OL all of the sudden. If they want to compete in the AFC North they will need a tough running game and a healthy Carson Palmer, so Andre Smith is the pick.
7. Raiders- Michael Crabtree
A fairly obvious choice, as Al Davis will want to have a WR added to his QB/RB tandem of Russell and McFadden. The Raiders have perhaps the worst set of WR's in the league, so this pick has to be made.
8. Jaguars- Jeremy Maclin
The Jags have all but stated that they want a WR with speed. Maclin provides them with a threat downfield and a #1 WR option, a pressing need with the release of Matt Jones.
9. Packers-- Brian Orakpo
I think Orakpo could be a bust since he is more of an amazing athlete than a technically sound player. But the Packers need a guy that can get to the QB and at #9 this is a good value.
10. Niners- BJ Raji
I wanted the Niners to maybe take Oher here, since its important that they get help at tackle, but Raji is simply too good to let pass by. He would absolutely be huge in their 3-4 defense, providing an Albert Haynesworth-like ability to stuff the run and pressure the QB. Would tremendously improve the play of the entire defense.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
Raji could drop because of the drug thing...and with that said, I think the Niners/Singletary will or could pass on Raji and take Maybin if he's still there.
The Niners needs a pass rusher and Maybin(6-4/250) has the tools and size to be that guy.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
The thing is, there are so many good OLB pass rushers in this draft that we can find one with our second pick.
We need to get the most dominant player, who I think is Raji.

Raji is a no-brainer if he's there at 10.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
I think Raji goes to the Raiders. They haven't taken a WR high in a long time and they need DL help. That also means that I don't think Crabtree makes it out of the top 5.
One interesting name brought up by Risdon when I asked him about #10 was Barwin, the pass rusher from Cincinnati. His stock is rising by the day, so we'll see if thats an option but I think that spot is a bit high for him.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
There's always the possibility of holding #10 hostage to Denver for Sanchez. Trade down to 12 and pick up that Bears 3rd rounder for our 4th or trade down to 18 and pick up Denver's 2nd (via Houston). Those scenarios work on the draft value chart.

I like this assuming we can get an OT like Andre Smith or Michael Oher with Denver's 1st

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
I like this option too.
Get an OT + more picks, if possible. Otherwise, just draft the best OT (1 of 4)... f*** Orakpo, Brown, Maybin, ...those guys are not top 10 worthy. I'd rather get the Crab or Maclin... I also rather get M. Jenkins, M. Sanchez, A. Curry... than Raji... If I were the 49ers, this would be my draft order (1 .. 12):
Jason Smith
Eugene Monroe
Aaron Curry
Andre Smith
Michael Crabtree
Michael Oher
Jeremy Maclin
Mark Sanchez
Malcolm Jenkins
B.J. Raji
Tyson Jackson
Matthew Stafford
Then, you take best player available... (hopefully not Raji)...

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
It looks like all of these teams in the top-10 are saying that they'll draft Sanchez as a way to get the Skins to deal away their pick and a bounty of other picks in order to get him.
I have no idea why Dan Snyder wants to get rid or Campbell, as the guy is a good young QB, but if he is enamored with Sanchez then he'll do crazy stuff to get him.
If Sanchez should fall to us, I'd be happy to draft him and deal him to the Skins for the #13 and perhaps a 3rd rounder and 4th rounder. But I think he'll get drafted by a team in front of us and traded for a much steeper price.
I agree about not drafting an OLB at #10. Get a lineman or Raji first and one of these tweener, 3-4 OLB's in the second or third round.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
1)Detroit takes Stafford...just because they have Culpepper as their starter
2)Rams take Monroe
3)KC takes Jason Smith
4)Seahawks takes Curry but very could take Sanchez
5)Browns takes Sanchez since they will eventually deal Quinn to the Jets
6)Cincy takes Orakpo. Cincy plays no defense
7)Raiders takes the popular pick...Crabtree or Maclin
8)Jags take B.J. Raji
9)Green Bay takes Tyson Jackson
10)Niners should take Crabtree or Maclin(whoever is available) but will choose to take Andre Smith.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
No way KC takes an OT.
They already have Brendan Albert at LT, who they took last year and I thought looked good enough to stay there, and no team will spend a top 3 pick on a RT. I think its Curry to pair inside with Zach Thomas and becoming their version of Mayo and Willis.
Crabtree won't be available at 10(I think SEA looks QB later and takes Crabtree) and I wouldn't touch Maclin there. I could see Andre Smith being the pick at 10, or Michael Oher. I'm still not sold on the Raiders taking a WR at 7. I think the first round WR they would consider is Heyward-Bey because he's one of the fastest WRs in the draft and he's got good size but 7 is way too high for him. I'm beginning to think Orakpo could end up in Oakland.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
Shot in the dark top 10(in order and no trades):
Stafford
J. Smith(already being reported)
Curry
Crabtree
Jackson(fast riser)
Monroe
Orakpo
Sanchez(either JAX takes him or trade)
Raji(GB needs a true nose as much as they need a pass rusher)
A. Smith to 49ers -- Touted as a top 2 pick before combine. This is definitely a BPA type pick that the 49ers should make and I think he can challenge Smith for starting RT.

Re: My top-10 Mock Draft
I wouldn't mind Jackson if we hadn't already picked a DE last year...
That being said, my "perfect" draft would be Sanchez dropping to #10, allowing us to trade him to the Redskins/Broncos/Jets, move down in the draft and still get a player like Oher (depending on where we trade down to) while getting extra picks in the process.
1. Stafford
2. J Smith
3. Curry
4. Sanchez! *may trade it!
5. Jackson
6. A Smith
7. Crabtree
8. Maclin
9. Raji
10. Monroe? Orakpo? Oher?
Could Monroe drop to 10? Maybe...I think it all depends on what Seattle does at #4.

They picked a dud last year. Hopefully, they recognize it sooner than later.

I have mixed feelings about Crabtree. Definitely a game changer, but there are bigger needs.

You don't pass on a guy like Crabtree, this was a huge steal at #10.
