I honestly didn't expect we'd get him, we had other needs besides WR, but at the 10th pick he was too much a talent to pass up, many claimed he was the 2nd best player in the entire draft, and was a lock to go nowhere past the Raiders (and LOL at them). We struck GOLD, pun intended.

This is huge for us, we got another great piece for our core.

Once the Raiders took DBHeyward, I knew that the NINERS had a good shot to land Crabtree. The Raiders are a friggin joke. Jeb York and the NINERS really need to send AL DAVIS a big "Thank YOU" package for passing up on Crabtree.

Great Pick. Once again Al davis take a scat in his diapers in the Raiders war room by selecting the speed WR. Great choice by the niners. He should proove to be a great 3rd down and RZ WR.

Yeah, I thought there was no chance he slips past the Raiders.

I don't get this trade. Brown is a 1st round talent and fills a huge need for us, why trade him with a 4th for what could be a late 1st next year? We now only have 2 picks through 4 rounds, and now I have to root against my second favorite team next year. -_-

Yeah, I agree. Why did we have to trade our 2nd and 4th to get Carolina's 1st? Especially since Brown DROPPED badly (someone who was mocked to be in the top 15!) and we could have had him...

I agree we should have kept Brown with the second pick. But on the bright side we got CRABTREE!!!!
Now our offense has VD and Crabs LOL. Now we just need OT-pass rusher-Backup RB

That trade is great value, even if the Panthers win the Bowl. Brown isn't projected as a 3-4 end and not likely to be effective as an OLB. Speculation is that the Niners were hoping for Maulauga (sp?) or Britton to drop in their slot, but when they were picked jumped on this deal.

The thing is, why did we have to give up our 4th as well? Most trades I seen, especially with someone who has a high 2nd round pick, all it takes is their 2nd for a future 1st...not a later pick as well.

This is a weak draft. The Niners didn't like anyone left as second round talent. In a strong draft, a team might trade a future first for a second. Of course, we're also talking about teams like the Nolan Niners who traded a future first for 2nd rndr. Joe Staley. Yes, they have holes to fill, but I guess they value a mid first rounder next year than weak 2nd and 4th this year.

Not sure on the deal, Brown was expected to go much higher, and signs pointed towards him being a good fit. I understand the motive though, it'll feel much better next year when we have two first round picks in a hopefully more deeper class. Maybe the deal was to get another first to use as trade bait for another QB maybe, Quinn.

But seriously, as HotStove said, who cares, we got Crabtree!!

The 37 pick that Denver traded into for their first next year is worth 70 points more on the pick value chart than the 43 pick SF traded. The 4th the Niners traded is worth about 70 points by itself. So, it's basically the same deal value wise. If SF had the 37th pick, they wouldn't have traded it, as Maulauga and Britton were still there.

Ray Maulauga would have been lovely to have. I definately wouldn't have been mad if the 49ers wouldn't have traded the pick and selected him. However next years 1st round is going to be way more talented across the board than this one. Having two picks in next years draft is going to be huge. Look at what Philly was able to accomplish with their 2 1st this year in a weak draft. They were able to get a Pro-Bowl lineman from the Bills and a playmaker like Jeremy Maclin. GM Scot McCloughan and Coach Mike Singletary are moving in the right direction by making that move. Espically since there might not be a salary cap in the 2010-2011 season. Tim Tebow, Earl Thomas (FS, Texas), Everson Griffen (DE, USC), Trent Williams (OT, Oklahoma), & Dez Bryant (WR, Oklahoma State) could all be selected between picks 20 thru 32 next year. 20 thru 32 is were Carolina's pick will end up at. Most likely our pick will be some where between 7th thru 15th. Taylor Mays (Safety, USC), Bryan Bulaga (OT, Iowa), Joe Hadden (CB, Florida), Brandon Spikes (ILB, Florida), Trevard Lindley (CB, Kentucky), & Rolando McClain (ILB, Alabama) could all be drafted in those areas.

Except the Broncos do not have a QB, that pick could easily be top 10 next year. Sucks for the 49ers, but its true. Seahawks have had a great draft so far, we had a great 1st round though, but only 2 picks through 4 rounds sucks.

Day 1 easily gets an A+ from me. Crabtree was a fantastic pick and should be an instant improvement for our WR corps. Getting a 1st for our 2nd was also a good move, though I also would have liked to see us pick Brown.

Agreed with gswhoops, although like people said above, only having 2 picks in the first 4 rounds sucked.

So how do people see Crabtree getting his minutes? Do we slowly let him learn and eventually take over for Bruce next year? Or do we try to get him in as the #3 receiver and get as many minutes as possible behind Bruce/Morgan? And where does Brandon Jones fit in now?

EDIT: And what about Battle and Hill?

I think we should get him as many minutes as possible, he's easily our most talented WR. I'd transition him slowly not put him completely under the fire, but he's NFL ready enough to be a third WR the moment he steps on the field.

But didn't we just pay Jones the big bucks to be our #3?
