Leon Washington to the 9ers???

Also saw this on NFL network......

If Frisco makes an offer to Leon, a restricted FA, New York would have the opportunity to match. If NYJ declines to match the offer, Frisco would give New York its 2nd round pick (#49). Some of us have talked about using the 2nd to get a backup RB, who can return kicks as well anyways.

Depending on what his contract would be, I would like that pickup. IMO Washington is the perfect compliment to Frank, and would be a good fit with Raye's spread system. Leon is a very versatile, all purpose back and would help Frisco's anemic return game. Giving up the 2nd is a big price, but Washington is a proven guy that would fill 2 needs. 1) Significantly improves the return game 2) Gives Frank a quality backup, and helps reduce Gore's wear and tear (I'm not all that high on Coffee). My concerns are Washington will turn 28 this season. But really I don't think that is all that big of a deal, because he has never been a workhorse back and doesn't have a ton of mileage on him. He also is kind of injury prone.

I think this is a distinct possibility, especially with Raye's familiarity with Leon.

i like Leon Washington but he was hurt all last year and gets dinged up alot. I would prefer Jahvid Best or Javier Arenas in the 2nd or 3rd round to address or need for a PR/KR.

It's really a debate between Washington or Jahvid Best. I would lean towards Best who would probably be there in the second.

Washington would cost more, he's older, and he just tore up his knee. I rather have Best who is younger, would cost less, and the only major injury he sustained was the concussion. Javier Arenas would also be nice since he could play nickel back in certain situations.

I'm a bit wary of Cal backs ever since I realized I had a huge Cal bias. I used to eat at JJ Arrington's family restaurant and I was convinced he would tear it up...bust. Then I saw Marshawn beast mode all over college football and was certain he'd destroy at the NFL level...bust.

Jahvid has the speed those guys didn't, but you can't underestimate what an already established NFL body of work brings to the table when making personnel decisions.

JJ Arrington has a family restaurant? Marshawn is a headache off the field that's for sure. I guess you're right about Cal come to think of it. They must have some type of Golden Bear curse.

I don't live anywhere close to Cali, nor am i any way biased to that area. But I agree with this for sure. Also, Best's concussion issues are something to be highy concerned about.

Best wont play as often for us so his risk for injury shud be lower. He'll be predominantly a return man and probably wont get to many carries considering he's competing with Gore and Coffee. Probably would be a dream situation for him.

^ I hear you, but would you want to use a 2nd rounder on a guy that is primarily used as a returner, and his secondary purpose would only be a depth RB?

I would just assume draft Javier Arenas in the 3rd. Arenas could serve the same purpose in the return game, but he also has skills in the secondary. Frisco needs help in the secondary as well, so he would doubly valuable.

Totally agree. Rather get a return guy who has secondary skills because Tarell Brown, Mark Roman, and Michael Lewis just don't get it done whatsoever. Javier Arenas looked decent in the secondary in Alabama and he's a good return man.

I forgot who exactly owns it, it's either his parents or a good friend of them. There are/were pictures of JJ all over that place. It was like a catfish and deep fry fish type restaraunt, pretty small though. Pretty good stuff.

Jahvid is a good compliment to Gore and that's why I like him a lot, but we already have Coffee which is good and bad. Not a great compliment, but he obviously has good talent.

After signing LT I think the Jets will look to pursue a trade with Washington before the draft. Right now the Jets backfield boasts the overachieving playoff hero Shonn Greene, a vet in LT, and a change of pace back in Leon. I don't think there's time for all of them unless LT really is done.

I think LT will be a crybaby if he doesn't get some touches. I'm sure the Jets will explore the possibility of trading Washington especially since he just came off a serious knee injury. That also might make his value low though.
