McCloughan Out-Is Singletary Going to Be Head Coach/GM?

http://football.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/16323/20100318/mccloughan_out_as_san_francisco_gm/I personally don't like the idea of having a head coach also be the GM. I rather have checks and balances. Hopefully, the 49ers will find a good candidate to replace Scot who I felt let the coaches decide on personnel moves for the few seasons he was here. Hopefully, the next GM will be more assertive in FA as well.

Taylor Mays is coming to SF if Singletary is in charge.

Mays better never put on a SF uniform.

Why?
I hope Sing isn't coach/GM. It's just too much work for one person.

I think Holmgren overloaded himself in Seattle.

Why are you being stubborn on mays? We need a safety. Thomas is generally viewed as a bigger risk. Haden and berry are going top 10. And our head coach loves him. This isn't share your feelings hour, logically it looks like were taking him. Of course there are better options but they won't be there at 13,let alone 17. mays is a stud athletically and has a huge upside, writings on the wall, you can accept it or go root for the raiders.

Thomas as a bigger risk? How?
I just don't see it. Mays is definitely a bigger risk because people are going off on measurables and not on his actual play. Thomas is the superior player from what I've seen.

Singletary won't be the GM, they are likely staying inside the org. and promoting Trent Baalke(Dir. of player personnel) to replace McCloughan.

Agree Earl Thomas played on a better team in a better conference and went to the BCS title game. Mays blows coverage all the time and only goes for big hits. Earl Thomas is the more complete player and I think Haden might drop to the 49ers at 13 too due to his poor 40 time at the combine.

Haden ran a 4.4 40 at his pro day, could be back in the top 10 picture. I could see a scenario where he falls to 13 but it looks unlikely now.

Let's just hope those GMs second guess his speed and amazing resume at Florida and he falls into our laps at 13.

Let me correct myself. I think most people think that although Mays is less polished, he has higher ceiling of potential than Thomas. Thomas is probably less of a risk, but I think that it would not be hard for Mays to be the same as Thomas, the question is will he be the same talent as Berry in this draft or the better safeties already in the league.

If Singletary was our GM a few years ago, we would have never picked Patrick Willis...

McCloughan made the draftboard that the niners are gonna use for the draft I believe and the person he thinks that will be most valuable will be rated highest and taken first, according to comments by singletary. Looks like we should have at least one more draft influenced by the old gm.

McCloughan stockpiled some nice talent as a GM. Hopefully, he will come back aboard sometime during this season. I don't trust Singletary or York as a GM whatsoever. Singletary is a pretty good coach and Jed York seems like an OK owner so far and a lot better than his did, but hopefully they stay clear of personnel matters for the most part.

I really doubt Haden is there by our pick but I'm confident that we make a fine choice. Our past few drafts have been great except for the fact that Chili's Rachel sucks horribly.

My favorite Rachal moment last season was when Jeff Zgonina (37 years old at the time) blew by him to sack Alex Smith. That is when I knew the 49ers desparately needed OL help on the right side.

He just doesn't seem to be an overly competitive player. Or even a competitive player. Didn't like the original pick but he still has time to prove me wrong.

I rather we not give him anymore time and just find another RG. Rachal can be a nice backup RG but he shouldn't be starting on the O-Line. Rachal should be insurance.

True, we should take a long look at Iupati. He could replace Rachal and move Baas to the other OG spot where he's actually been more effective from what I've heard at least.
