Lucas, Griffith sign

Post#1 » by Sweezo » Tue Apr 28, 2009 12:27 am

What a busy couple days. Adding Lucas seems like a necessary evil...hopefully he hasn't lost that much of a step, as his size and ability to press would be a big gain.

The wheels continued to turn in Renton for the Seattle Seahawks today, as they announced the signing of two veterans they were rumored to be interested in, with former Seahawk Ken Lucas and ex-Oakland Raiders fullback Justin Griffith signing with the team.

Terms of their agreements were not disclosed.

I don't know about these moves. The Griffith signing has been rumored for a long time now, as the front office and coaching staff seem hell-bent on reconstructing the Falcons offense from five years ago, minus Vick and Dunn (you know, the interesting ones). I'd rather see Owen Schmitt win the fullback job outright, though I guess you can never go wrong with a little competition.

I lurked through a thread on the Panthers board and there seemed to be broad agreement that Lucas sucked and needed to go. It's possible that he sucks less than Wilson and Jennings, I guess. But if this damages the team's ability to sign Leroy Hill, I can't see how this helps.

Bulltalk, if you're reading this: presumably these signings take away from the net loss of five free agents that the team needs to suffer if it wants a compensatory third-round pick next year?

The Lucas and Griffith signings do not affect the compensatory pick formula because they did not reach the end of their contracts.

I love it when people know this stuff.

Lucas... with that kind of contract would be easy to criticize. We aren't paying him that kind of money so my guess is he's an upgrade to Jennings. I'm just glad we got someone who can put a lick on the bigger guys who ate Kelly's lunch. He's not a #1 CB, but I still like Trufant so long as he has some size around him.

Griffith- Seems like a wise move. I still expect Owen to come out and win the job. We need some runaway beer truck highlights.
