Belicheck's play call against Indy...

Post#1 » by TheUrbanZealot » Mon Nov 16, 2009 8:53 am

Bill Belicheck proved why he is the my favorite coach in the NFL. Belicheck on a 4th and 2 from his own 28 decided to go for it rather than play safe and punt it with 2 mins + left. Belicheck was playing to WIN, he wasn't playing to NOT LOSE.

That decision, in itself, is what separates men from boys. Belicheck knew that if he punted the ball, giving Manning 2 mins to score knowing his ability is going to be a tough pill to swallow when he had a chance to close it out. You have Tom Brady, one of the best offenses in the league, have been destroying Indy all day, and only need 2 friggin' yards. Belicheck just solidified my respect even moreso for having the gumption to make a call like that in front of millions. Anyone that is berating him for making a poor decision is being unjustly reactive and not looking at the totality of the situation.

As long as we have our staff, we can expect a conservative, "safe" approach. We need some coaches that have a fresh take and BALLS. It seems like Holmgren's ultra-conservative legacy still runs deep...

Anyways, kudos again to Belicheck for having some serious gumption to make a call like that, regardless of the outcome...
