Josh Wilson traded to Ravens

Post#1 » by Danny Darko » Tue Aug 31, 2010 11:27 pm

Thirty minutes after he walked off the practice field Tuesday laughing and joking with teammates, cornerback Josh Wilson was traded by the Seahawks to the Baltimore Ravens in a surprising move by first-year general manager John Schneider.

The Seahawks will receive a conditional 2011 draft pick in return for Wilson, reportedly a fifth-round pick that could change depnding on how much he plays for the Ravens.

Wilson, 25, started 23 games for the Seahawks over the past two seasons and was battling with Kelly Jennings for a starting job this year.

He also has been the team's primary kickoff return man.

Huh? Yeah, Thurmond looks good, but really hope it's better than a 5th round. Carroll said he wanted to find a way to keep Roy Lewis around... guess he did.

Earlier in the week Pete said he was tough, fast, and had a big heart before going on to say that he hoped they could find a way to keep him.. It will be interesting to grade this out later. If Wilson performs and we get even a 4th and Lewis looks good then this will be a wise trade, but it's certainly a gamble in my eyes.

**** garbage. Garbage! Don't they have enough tape of Kelly Jennings getting burned on deep routes to realize that he's not a capable starting CB? Really...look at the goddamned tape. Or look at what you see with your own eyes when you watch the preseason games this year.

It doesn't matter if Lewis is good, or if we find some project in the 5th round. Ultimately it's another trade where we got very little value in return. You want value on the team? Cut Jennings and the roster is instantly upgraded.

Pete wants turnovers? He's an idea of how to generate turnovers...don't trade the guy who got a pick against the Titans in preseason by cutting in front of a reciever, or who knocked the ball out of Berrian's hands and allowed Thomas to get a pick six.

Jennings can't catch a ball to save his life, and he can't STOP someone from catching a ball to save his life. So how do you fix that problem? Trade the playmaker so you can...I don't know...draft another E.J. Wilson.

The team may be better at drafting and adding talent than the prior regime, but they're **** at getting value for talent. There's no argument that Wilson didn't fit the scheme...he's far more physical than Jennings. This makes no sense. I'm getting more and more upset at this pattern of events that demonstrates a front office who has this rigid plan that has little flexibility to it.

There is no way of convincing me that a is more valuable than b in the below scenario

a. Jennings/Thurmond/Lewis + 5th rd. pick
b. Wilson/Thurmond/Lewis + Jennings to waivers

If Wilson performs, then that will lead to me saying "Hey, that guy's kicking butt down in Baltimore...wonder if he wouldn't have given up all those long TDs and had more than the zero interceptions Jennings has."

Schneider needs to lose in a trade. He needs to see his product take the field, middle around a bit, and then watch Wilson excel, Jackson excel, Whitehurst ride the pine, and realize what 'value' means in the NFL today. If he's too daft to learn that lesson we're going nowhere.

At first glance I'm like "huh?" We'll have to wait and see what pick they get for him. He had talent as a returner, and was a *decent* CB. I certainly liked him more than Jennings. Also, as an aside, he was kind of well spoken guy on the radio when I heard him. Kind of likeable.

I am in Sweezo's and Hippie's camp about not getting proper value in their trades. I'm a little disconcerted about that. I understand them wanting to remake the roster in the image that they want ASAP. But...

Hey how about that...the Raiders immediately attack Jennings deep, and his stupid ass draws a penalty for contact down the field and not turning his head. I can't wait to see this happen all year long.

And the Raiders just scored on a screen to the fullback on a play where Jennings was cleaned out on a block. Because he's awful.

Well at least preseason is over. I need real football now. Thank God I've got the Huskies on Saturday.
