Game 8: Giants @ Seattle

Game 8 features a familiar theme: Injuries vs Seahawks. Oh and also a team that specializes in literally knocking QB's out of games. Also: bum bum bum bum- Charlie Whitehurst's clipboard halo comes off for his first real start.

Injury update:

Seahawks-
Matt Hasselbroke (QB) Concussion. Okung (LT) is doubtful with a second high ankle sprain. Mebane (DT) is iffy with a calf injury. Cole (DT) ankle is fatter than even normal. Tate(WR) has an ankle sprain. M-Robinson(FB) is doubtful with a hammy. Bryant(DE) Gone for the year with a severe knee injury. Polumbus (LT) out with the wrath of King Left tackle in Seattle Tut's curse. Hamilton (OG) out for the year with a concussion.

Giants
center Shaun O'Hara (foot) and fullback Madison Hedgecock (hamstring) are both out. Center issues at Qwest could be interesting.

Things to Watch:

1-Charlie Whitehurst... don't you just wish he had a chance to throw down field? Probably not vs the Giants with an allstar grocery bagger Offensive Line. The Giants have knocked out Tony Romo, Matt Moore, Jay Cutler, Todd Collins and Shaun Hill this season.

2-NY's #4 rushing vs our brand new DL... say goodbye to #3 rushing D most likely.

3-Earl Thomas the WR? Not quite but I'm guessing he has a better chance at catching passes and scoring TDs than Williams, Stokely, and Obamanu.

4-Beast Force. Seattle has very little chance if they can't eat some clock up with the rush. Can Pitts, Gibson, Spencer, Andrews, and Locklear do anything to help the cause?

5-How many positions can the 12th man play?

6. Zac Robinson- Who? Our QB once Charlie rejoins Clip Board Holly Father in the heavens.

7. Wait, what if Charlie looks good?... QB Controversy will strike in the midst of a possible playoff run. Darko will buy a Whitehurst jersey and the Seahawk nation will have to officially beat on Curry more than usual (if possible).

Predictions-

"You Bastards! ... you killed Charlie!"

14-0 Giants. Holding off, but tempted to say that it's over.

Oops! 2 penalties leading to Giant TD's, and now a fumble on the kickoff leading to a 3rd TD.

Now I say that it's over. Clipboard Jesus can't hit shyt to gain my confidence in a comeback. He's obviously nervous about the start, but he's got to get over that pronto to make ANY kind of a game of it now.

Well, it's about to be 21-0 with about 2 minutes left in the 1st Q. The score is all kind of ugly; all three Giant TDs have come at the expense of 'Hawk miscues (two penalties on 3rd downs to keep drives alive, fumbled KO return). I mean, credit NY for taking advantage, but yikes.

Whitehurst has a big arm, but through three possessions absolutely no touch. I didn't get to catch much Seahawk preseason football, so this is really the first I'm seeing of him since he was at Clemson. Hopefully the first quarter is all about nerves. The play calling has been there, the execution has not.

Beast Mode is on, though. That was a 9-on-9 pile drive, and Lynch won.

Whitehurst throws a nice football. I'll give him that. He just hasn't been accurate, and a little late in his timing. I'm not sure that you can make a decent judgment at all about him from this game. But it's also hard to envision giving him another chance the next game if Hass is ready to go.

Well I'm glad that I pretty much decided to take the weekend off from football, just glancing at the first half of the Hawks game from time to time today. Tough being a Husky or Hawks fan the last two weeks. Lets' see...

Last week:

Stanford 41 Huskies 0
Oakland 33 Hawks 3

This week:

Oregon 53 Huskies 16
Giants 41 Hawks 7

The two week totals:

Husky opponents 94 Huskies 16
Hawks opponents 74 Hawks 10

Husky and Hawks opponents 168 Huskies and Hawks 26

I think I've officially bottomed-out as a football fan this year.

I listened to every horrible minute of the game on the drive back from Eugene.

Whitehurst was fairly accurate in the pre-season, and I think he was suffering from a case of nerves early on. Once the game was basically decided he finally got to show off his accuracy a little. To me, it sounded like he did a decent job of avoiding pressure, and his first INT should have been a TD.

Schneider may have come from the GB braintrust, but in listening to the 'Hawks game and later watching the Packers game...we may have some decent pieces, but we have zero depth. Green Day's had people drop left and right and yet their defense remains solid. Our team cannot afford that.

It's hard to expect any team to compete when it's entire starting unit is wiped out. Our run defense has been our strong point, so of course the three main players responsible for that run defense [Mebane/Cole/Bryant] are now unavailable. And now we are also getting zero pass pressure.

I wasn't all that mad about it. There's just not a whole lot the team can do. Once again injuries are hitting this team and we're having to plug in pieces we've pulled off the street.

Hopefully the offseason brings another good draft and some free agent pieces. We need help.

Seattle sports radio is just RIPPING the Seahawks a new one this morning. lol They are ripping the lack of effort out of the team, calling it as embarrassing as anything they've seen out of this franchise. Real rants. They're not mad at the loss, they expected it; they're mad at the way the team played the game irregardless of the injuries and all. They really questioned whether or not Carroll's style will work in the NFL as it did in college. They were mad that Carroll didn't even looked pissed after the game in interviews.

Charlie Whitehurst came up, and Mitch and Hugh Millen were laughing at how bad he looked, how many mistakes he made, how he couldn't hit a receiver if his life depended upon it. For as good as the Hawks front office has done with personnel moves, they talked about how bad the Whitehurst trade looks now.

Anyway...it is clear to me that a QB in the draft HAS to be a top priority.

Charlie looked like he was a deer in the headlights of his first start, but his throwing fundamentals were good, his arm strength is amazing, and I think he has potential. Enough for me to want to see him for another few games. Hugh and Mitch are idiots if they think you can prove anything about the trade in the debut game. Colt McCoy anyone?

The injuries are just amazing to me... so sad

Of course they did. And they should...it is inexcusable for a QB whose never started a game or thrown an NFL pass to show nerves and struggle.

I don't get why so many radio personalities defend every damn thing Hass does, when they seem to forget that Hass had a terrible start to his Seahawks career. He's familiar, he's a veteran...same old nonsense.
