Bates out; McDaniels on the way?

Post#1 » by Sweezo » Tue Jan 18, 2011 8:58 pm

Well...goddammit:

Jeremy Bates has been fired as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator. The news was first reported on the NFL Network, and has subsequently been confirmed by The Seattle Times.

Bates came to Seattle with coach Pete Carroll in January 2010 after serving as Carroll's offensive coordinator at USC in 2009. Bates previously worked under Mike Shanahan in Denver and Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay.

And who may replace him?

Well, we may now know why Josh McDaniels’ talks with the Rams hit a snag. And why the Seahawks booted offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that McDaniels has been talking with the Seahawks since Monday. You know, the day when the Rams deal started to fall apart and a day before Bates was actually fired.

I know some people have had issues with Bates, but I thought he did a great job in the playoffs. We destroyed the Saints thanks to his game plan. The loss against the Bears didn't seem like his fault to me...Hass was 'on' but his recievers were letting him down early.

You want to fire a coordinator for letting the Seahawks down? Then can Bradley. Or maybe the defense is Carroll's baby?

New OL coach? Tom Cable. Not too shabby.

I wasn't crazy about McDaniels as the new O coordinator but he is off the market now anyhow. I saw mention of Zorn for the job which is pretty blech but then we were the worst offense is the NFL so he could be an improvement.

ESPN mentioned Cable's close relationship with FA guard Robert Gallery, the o-line was a mess last season he surely could help.

Good riddance. I wanted him gone. I never truly saw the proper implementation of the thunder-and-lightening running attack; his 3rd and 4th down calls were mind-bogglingly bad most of the time; he didn't seem to work well with Hasselbeck, play to his strengths; he forgot about the TE too much; and he's got the personality of a goat.

We can do MUCH better. Believe me.

That sounds fine with me. Bevell seems competent, if not exciting. Bringing balance to the office isn't a bad idea. My only concern now is whether Cable and Bevell butt heads. Carroll seems to be granting Cable quite a bit of leeway, with Cable focusing on the run and Bevell focusing on passing. There still needs to be a clear delineation of who's in charge.
