Offseason wishlist

Post#1 » by wiz_khalifa » Wed Jan 19, 2011 9:08 pm

Quite simple, what positions do you want to see the Seahawks improve in the offseason? I personally would like to see improvements in the line, Offensive and Defensive. Now that we have Tom Cable and hopefully Okung can get healthy we need more talent on the line especially the offensive line. Also I would like to see us get a shutdown CB. Asomugha would be my preference but that seems a bit unrealistic. A QB of the future who can learn for a season or so under Hasselbeck (if we re-sign him) would also be nice.

Yeah, OL/DL/QB/CB seem to be the big ones. Admitting this will probably be a need more suited to address down the line, I'd also like better speed at receiver. I like Mike Williams and I'm glad we re-signed him, but neither him, Tate, or Stokely (if we bring him back) are god's gift to speed. Butler can run, but will be coming off injury.

#1 for me would the the O-line. The Cable hiring will be a addition but we need to get a guard in either the draft or as a FA signing.

#2 Need would be a CB, Jennings is awful and Trufant is slowing down.

Any Carson Palmer fans here? I would assume not.

I think he's a Hass clone at this point in his career [with a terrible contract, no less]. Palmer's not going to find a market out there.

Mankins, Asamougha, and have Mallett or Locker fall to us in the draft or grab the best CB available. Then later rounds to fortify depth at both lines.

no thanks on palmer. I'd rather take my chances with McNabb if we're talking aging QB's

Do we have a shot with Asamougha?

I'd take a stab at Carson Palmer. He's supposedly in decline, but his "bad" 2010 season is better than all but a couple of Hasselbeck seasons. Football Outsiders said Palmer was the QB who outperformed his "traditional" stats the most in 2010. The knock is he's an injury risk... and yet he's working on a consecutive-game streak that approaches Hasselbeck's career high.

And as for the present vs. the future: how much of a future do you really get from a draft pick? You sign him for four, maybe five years. If you want to keep him longer than that, you can slap a tag on him but then you'll have to pay full price. Otherwise you're just another bidder for his services. And that's leaving aside the very real possibility that he'll bust.

If the price is right, I say go for it.

I'll take just about any guard who can block over what we have right now.
Gallery is also highly injury prone though which combined with our penchant(esp our OL) for picking up injuries is a bad combo.

If he play left guard without stepping on Okung's ankle, then I am all for it.

I'm highly interested in seeing what Cable can do with our OL. How big of a difference can he make with a proper camp and preseason? How big was Gibbs' departure? Does Cable's connection mean Gallery really is an option?

I'm not sold. My first response in the thread was a rather 'flip' one, and I suppose If Palmer was a free agent in competition with Hass for a contract, I'd be all for it. But without a 3rd round pick this year, I really place a premium on the draft picks we do have. I agree with the argument that the Bengals are kind of a wasteland and Palmer seems to have gotten a raw deal. But how much would it be worth to bring Palmer in?

I didn't think the team would have any interest in Mallett when Bates was on board, but with our new OC coming from a more traditional WCO perhaps that changes?

While I get the argument for Palmer and try to defer to those understand football better than myself, I think McNabb's better days are behind him.

I had a rush of excitement when the Palmer rumblings came out. After some time that all faded when I looked at his numbers, his deal and the fact the Bungles want to keep him.

O-Line needs to be addressed, that was the biggest problem with our running game IMO.

should be interesting to see if Palmer retires in earnest or this is a last ditch effort to get a cut or trade. (make that cut, no ones paying that salary)

I think he'll have to be cut and will immediately be on the radar of SF and Arizona who will think twice before shelling out the asking price for Kolb

McNabb is another QB thats gonna be out there. I don't see him being better then what we get from Hass but he's out there.
