Seeing how our game was moved to the late game today, and that there is no Monday night game this final week of the regular season, we'll technically know what our draft position will be before this game begins depending on our winning or losing the game.
As of now (before tie-breakers are considered), these 6 teams will definitely be ahead of us in the coming draft if we do lose this game:
--Carolina
--Denver
--Cincinnati
--Buffalo
--Cleveland
--Either San Francisco or Arizona
That would put us tied for the 7th pick by record if we lose this game before the tie-breakers kick in. Currently, we are the 11th pick in the 1st round. If we lose this game, these teams will definitely share the same 6-10 record as us:
--Detroit
--Minnesota
--Either San Francisco or Arizona
These teams *could* end up with the same 6-10 record as us if we lose this game before the tie-breakers kick in, depending upon the outcomes of their games:
--Tennessee
--Dallas
--Washington
--Houston
I believe we are ahead of these teams in the tie-breaker scenarios:
--Tennessee
--Washington
--Minnesota
So it seems that if we lose, and finish tied with a 6-10 record with a handful of teams, we could be vying with these teams with the tie-breakers for a higher draft pick:
--Detroit
--Either San Francisco or Arizona
--Dallas
--Houston
Depending upon how the tie-breakers shake out, we would be, at worst, the 11th pick should we lose this game, and at best the 7th pick (not knowing how many of the above teams we would leapfrog if we lose and if these above teams finish at 6-10).
Basically speaking, by game time, someone will know what pick we will have if we lose this game, either the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th pick. So the difference between winning and losing this game as it stands now (without the tie-breakers applied yet) will be the difference between the 7th-11th pick in the first round, and, in all likelihood, the 21st pick if we win the game. That's some 10-14 spots higher in the draft if we lose the game, as opposed to winning it.
That's what we're talking here, boys. How important is that much of a leap in the first round, and higher slottings in the later rounds?
This is what being a Seahawk fan has reduced me to this year.
