Bengals Vs. Seahawks
Okay, after a dissapointing loss(Understatement?) the Hawks host a highpowered offense with the Bengals.
Last week the Bengals gave up 50 points to the offense challenged Browns. Although their defense isn't great, there is no way that losing like that will become a habit.
Leroy Hill is back to practice, which should help the D but Obamanu and Hacket and Morris are still out. I think the official injury list comes out tomorrow.
Predictions? Thoughts? Are we going to get any trafic during the game?

I have no idea what to expect. The Bengals are clearly capable of putting up alot of points through the air, and in the first two games our revamped defensive backfield hasn't really been tested. The Cardinals probably should have thrown on us a bit more since we blew more coverages than we did against the Bucs...but they didn't because their offensive philosophy has changed. The Bengals aren't afraid to sling the ball around. It could get ugly.
And yet, if a crap quarterback like Anderson can put up 51 points on the Bengals, why can't we? Jamal Lewis has looked like a running corpse for the past few seasons, and he looked like a god last week against their defense. Perhaps this could be the game that makes SA look like a Pro Bowl back...

Jesus...that was a nail biter. Hell of a game. Cincy may have put up some yards but I thought the defense did pretty well. Nice seeing Burleson redeem himself with a late TD after pretty much falling apart in the second half.
I don't know why Morris and Weaver aren't getting any carries whatsoever as a change of pace. Kind of irritating.

The Seahawks have to be one of the most frustrating teams to watch. Seemlingly every game- SA gets off to a slow start. Seemingly every game, it comes down to the last drive of the game. Seemlingly every game, Hasselbeck does something boneheaded.
That Cardinals game will come back to bite us.
I am deathly afraid of SF coming off a loss and D-Jax having a vendetta against us..

Hey, at least we didn't find enough of a reason to lose this game. This team has been frustrating to me the last few years for the almost inexplicable reason that they have such a hard time grabbing the W. I just lack the confidence in them of a contending team, that being a team that more often than not finds more ways to win than they do to lose, at least against teams they are better than, or somewhat equal to.
I'm coming around to the opinion that the drafting of a running back is moving its way up to the top of the team's draft board next spring. You figure that Alexander can only be counted on (and frustratingly so at times) for only one more year after this.
I, too, thought the defense did pretty well today in that bend but don't break kind of way. I think they'll continue to improve incrementally as the season progresses.
This team will do well if they can get out front and let this defense play a little more aggressively.

Unlike say Stevens, Burleson did a good job of putting his previous drops behind him and came through in the clutch to win the game. That catch he made on the sideline in the final drive was pretty incredible.
I think these past two games could be the start of something big for Nate.

i don't "hate" Alexander per se', I just think he is overrated. I've always thought he was overrated, actually. He's had the luxury of playing behind the best player (Jones) in football. For a few years, he had the luxury of playing behind not just the best player, but one of the top 5 lineman (Hutchinson) in football. After his big year I was begging that we wouldn't sign him, because I knew he would never have that type of production ever again. Signing him was more of a PR move since he was so popular w/ Seattle fans. Alexander is a RB. RB's are the most short-lived position in football. It's like QB where often times you don't reach your prime until your early/mid 30's. We could get a suitable replacement for Alexander at a fraction of the cost.
I hope we have an out clause (which I think we do) that kicks in early in his contract. I can't imagine why on earth we would sign a 29 yr old running back to an 8 yr contract for almost 70 million knowing he is only going to be serviceable for 2 -3 yrs tops...
