T.J. Duckett Signs: 5 years, ??? million

Post#1 » by Sweezo » Wed Mar 5, 2008 12:00 am

Running back T.J. Duckett has reached an agreement with the Seattle Seahawks, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

The Seahawks tried to sign him last year, but he chose to go to Detroit. His presence will give the Seahawks a solid short-yardage option at tailback and he can also play some fullback.

Duckett is a former first-round draft pick out of Michigan State, Duckett played in 12 games last season and was most productive in the final month of the season. He gained 201 of his 335 rushing yards in 2008 over the final four games. He rushed for 102 yards against Kansas City, his most in any game since September 2003.

Kinda posed this question in the other thread...but what does this mean for the 'Hawks backfield? How will Duckett be used? I'm putting money on SA being waived after the draft...

I think duckett will be used as our change of pace guy, like Morris was, but I think Duckett may be a little better.

I don't think there is any way SA is cut this season. He will definetly still be our opening day starter... BUT I think this is a death knell for him next year. Duckett was drafted by Mora if I remember correctly, and unless SA blows up for like 1400 and 10 (doubtful) he is gone.

Will suck to see one of the greatest to pull on the Seahawks uniform go.

"Doubtful" is the most optimistic word that can possibly be used to describe that scenario. It's not merely doubtful; it ain't gonna happen. Stick a fork in him. And don't make the mistake of sticking with players too long out of loyalty.

I like how Ruskell operates. He tries to get a TE in FAcy, and when that falls through, he gets a RB in FAcy. I see Ruskell trying to give himself the most flexibility possible as he enters the draft. I don't see this at all excluding him from taking a RB with the Hawks 1st pick if one of the best falls to us. But if they don't, he can spend his 1st on a stud lineman, or some other position of need, like TE, and go for a back later in the draft.

Me neither. In fact, I think that having a guy like Duckett increases the viability of using the first-round pick on Felix Jones, if that's what we're left with.

Fixed it for you.

But I agree with you. Alexander was the best RB in franchise history -- better than all those W guys (Warner, Williams, Warren, Watters) -- and is a likely Hall of Famer. But note my use of the word "was."

I learned all I needed to know about Alexander the past few years when, without a great offensive line and added responsibility on him to create, his response was...to fall down all the time.

SA has talent, and he has nice career stats. But I'll never feel like he gave his all for his team. So when I talk about team greats, I'll save my respect for a guy like Mack Strong who did go out and play hard every day.
