Even in his contract extension, Tatupu showed leadership. He could have demanded more money -- teammate Julian Peterson, a perennial Pro Bowl linebacker, is making $1 million more a season than Tatupu will under his new contract.
But Tatupu knew by taking a little less, it would free up room to help with a contract extension for linebacker Leroy Hill, who is a free agent after the season. He is also hoping it would help the team reach a long-term deal with cornerback Marcus Trufant, who received the one-year franchise tag in February.

Six years, $42 million. Where have I heard those numbers before?
Oh, that's right... that's the "impossible to match" offer sheet that Steve Hutchinson signed with Minnesota. The one that made all of our jaws drop.
I'm not saying whether either Lofa or Hutch is worth that money. But to say Lofa made some kind of big sacrifice... well....
I'm just glad he's going to be on my team and I can keep the jersey. I fully expect him to become the fourth player to make the Hall of Fame after playing exclusively for the Seahawks (after Largent, Cortez Kennedy and Walter Jones).
HeavyP -- I heard that in addition to Babineaux and Grant, Kerney and Craig Terrill also restructured. The one who impresses me the most is Babineaux. Grant and Kerney make megabucks can easily afford it, and Terrill recently signed a multimillion-dollar extension, not bad for a backup DT. This officially puts Babineaux in the class of Seahawks I admire most, right alongside Bobby Engram and Chris Gray.
