Triplett, Mallard Signed

...and some other guy I've never heard of.
The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive tackle Larry Tripplett, Wesley Mallard and claimed Dalton Bell off waivers, the club announced today.
Originally drafted in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft (42nd overall) by Indianapolis, Tripplett played four seasons for the Colts before signing with Buffalo in 2006. In 92 career games, he has registered 195 tackles, 8.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one interception. Tripplett, 29, attended the University of Washington.
A native of Hinesville, Georgia, Mallard attended the University of Oregon before being drafted by the New York Giants in the 6th round of the 2002 NFL Draft. Mallard has played in 59 career games, mostly on special teams.
Bell signed as an undrafted free agent with Carolina in 2007 before being released after training camp. Green Bay signed Bell on September 11, 2007 before releasing him a week later and eventually signed him again to a future contract on January 23, 2008 before placing him on waivers.

Gotta figure they added Triplett because Tubbs had to have his knee cleaned out some more.
Mallard's not a bad choice for special teams. He was a safety at the U of O when I was there...could deliver a hit or two when needed.

I'm thinking what he had to go through has to be fairly routine. He had major knee surgery, so going in and cleaning it up a bit seems fairly normal.
Oddly enough, I have an MRI tomorrow and after that, likely have to go in and have my knee cleaned up. Getting old sucks.

Tell me about it. I was in the best shape I've been in in years about 7 months ago. After a terribly sprained ankle, an achilles tendon injury, a partial rotator cuff tear, and tendenitous in my shoulders, I've become soft again.

Put me down for a torn peroneus brevis tendon in my left ankle. That's the thing that hooks to the pinkie toe, wraps around the malleolus and conencts on the other end to the calf muscle. I avoided surgery and it's mostly healed, but because of the way I walked there's nasty tendonitis and I can't run more than a mile without getting shin splints, and I have plantar fasciitis..
Anyhow, Tripplett. I guess he's getting up there in years, but didn't he start for Buffalo last year? Do we need to make the DT rotation any deeper? I'd rank our DTs in this order: Tubbs, Mebane, Bernard, Terrill, Tripplett, Bryant. Isn't that enough?

I also have a shoulder that I subluxed playing racquetball in college, and it has a tendency to slip when it gets hit and it'll never be right again. And I'm not that old...hell, I got carded when I bought Grand Theft Auto IV yesterday.
There's really not much info out there on Triplett. I don't mind stocking DL because Bryant may be a bit of a project, Bernard has his head up his ass, and Tubbs certainly isn't a given at this point. We lost Wyms and Darby, so we're at about where we should be.
Wasn't there another DL we had last year? Howard Green, I believe? Is he still in the mix as well?

And I have to correct myself, happily: Triplett is a lot younger than I thought he was. I had somehow gotten it into my head that he came out of UW in the late 90s. Turns out he was drafted in 2002. And when I read that, it all came back to me... I recall him being discussed as an Outland Trophy candidate, and one of his chief competitors was John Henderson at Tennessee. 2002 was the year when the Seahawks had their ill-fated draft headed by Triplett's college teammate, Jerramy Stevens, followed by Anton Palepoi and Maurice Morris.
