Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu pleaded guilty Monday to drunken driving and was sentenced to a day in jail and fines totaling $1,255.

"Lofa fully accepted responsibility by pleading guilty as charged. He asked for no special consideration and he received none," said Tatupu's lawyer, Jon Scott Fox. "He will pay his dues and put this matter behind him."

Municipal Judge Michael J. Lambo also ordered that Tatupu's license be suspended for 90 days and have an ignition interlock breath alcohol device installed in his car for one year, said Sarah Roberts, a prosecutor in this Seattle suburb.

Couple interesting things...

Lofa's name appears to be Mosiula Tatupu. I did not realize this.

Also, while the press is currently reporting that he straight plead, I would note that his sentence is lower than the mandatory minimums for a DUI over .15. So hopefully someone figures that out...he either didn't straight plea, or the DUI was initially charged out as an under .15 from the get go.

And ll that crap about the case being thrown because of some Miranda issue? Turned out to be a bunch of crap...

That's kind of weird about his real name. Where did Lofa come from?

So Lofa got fined like 1200 bucks and has to spend a day in jail. So here's a question for the die hard Seattle fans, would you take a DUI on your record (you don't have to actually commit the crime) to be Lofas cell mate for the 1 day he's in jail. The DUI would stay on your record and you'd have to lose your license for x-amount of time, take classes and pay like 5$ (What 1200$ means to Lofa). I'm just assuming thats what happens when you get a DUI as I've never gotten one.

It'd be a tough choice for me, I walk to school everyday and I'm looking into riding the bus to work, but given that it'd be hard for me to get a teaching job (I'm assuming) with the DUI I'd have to pass.

A DUI conviction usually isn't a big deal, so long as it's a first offense, when talking about employment opportunities. So drink up! Wait--

Naw, I wouldn't take the DUI on my record, because in the odd event I actually did get one later on in life that prior conviction would cause massive problems. Not that I ever expect to get a DUI, but then again...no on ever does.

Plus, the license suspension and the ignition interlock device would suck.

It depends. Would he get to have his way with me? Or vice versa?

I didn't know it either, but per Wikipedia, it appears to be from the end of his middle name. His dad was Mosi Tatupu, so it sounds like Lofa is Mosi Junior, so he went by the shortened version of his middle name.

Samoa you know.
