Plack, Kent, Forsett Cut; POS WR signed

Why the holy **** do you keep Coutu and cut a WR and RB when those positions have injury concerns?

Down four wide receivers because of injuries, the Seahawks started to reshape their roster to make some moves.

First, Seattle officially placed wide receiver Nate Burleson on the injured reserve list. On Sunday in Buffalo, he blew out his ACL. Burleson joins wide receiver Ben Obomanu on the injured reserve list. Deion Branch (knee) and Bobby Engram (collarbone) also remain out because of injuries.

On Tuesday, Seattle worked out six receivers -- Samie Parker, Mark Bradford, Devale Ellis, Mike Hass, Michael Gasperson and Billy McMullen.

From that list, the Seahawks, according to a source, reached an agreement with McMullen, who had been with the Eagles, Vikings and Redskins.

The 6-4, 215-pound McMullen was cut by the Redskins on Aug. 30. He played three years with the Eagles and was with the Vikings in 2006. McMullen caught 23 passes with the Vikings in 2005 and 18 with the Eagles in 2005. McMullen didn't have a regular-season job in 2007.

On Tuesday, the Seahawks also released seventh-round choice Justin Forsett, wide receiver Jordan Kent and punter Ryan Plackemeier. Those three roster spots were filled by the signing of punter Jon Ryan and the suspension reinstatements of defensive tackle Rocky Bernard and safety Jordan Babineaux.

The release of Kent leaves them with only two healthy receivers -- Courtney Taylor and Logan Payne.

Keeping Payne over Kent. So much for the NFL being a meritocracy. Go **** yourself, Ruskell.

What in the blue hell are the Seahawks DOING? They're that desperate for WRs that they CUT the most talented uninjured WR on their squad? And Forsett had had a really good camp too.

Jesus Christ.

WTF is Raskell doing? I assume that we are looking for a real receiver via trade or still considering the other has beens while we reserve the next wr spot with Coutu. If not... arg

How does cutting two positions with injuries help? Payne over Kent indeed. Man, that sucks. McMullen? That was your choice of all possible candidates? C'mon. b.s.

Forsett was claimed by the Colts, so he's gone...

Really starting to question Ruskell. He is not going to ride out the fan fare of drafting Lofa forever. A lot of his recent moves have been questionable... especially on offense.

ok we get it he's a character guy who refuses to sign controversy but c'mon dude this is a competitive sport. This is not a private school for girls. Gawd. Watch Forsett blow up as a colt, too, while we give two scrubs more time than warranted at wr.

I can't really wrap my head around this. I just don't see how they can ride two kickers for much longer. Also while Kent wasn't exactly a home run he at least was showing signs of possibly having a good year if given a chance. I don't see how bringing in some over the hill stop gap vet is going to solve the problem anymore than Kent necessarily would have. At least with Kent you'd be able to argue he's something for the future.

Forsett.. son of a. You lose a returner in Burleson, a RB in Mo-Mo for 2 weeks anyway. So what do you do? Lets cut the guy that had a good pre season and showed a ton of promise as a kick returner and wouldn't be the worlds worst backup at RB for certain situations.

Edit: Kent made it back to the PS http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/s ... dan_k.html . Obviously then he can still be developed, but at this point I'm not sure the Hawks would lose anything throwing him out there and seeing if he can deliver.

I think Coutu's probably on his way out...Holmgren was asked about keeping two kickers and gave an answer clearly indicative of someone who knows moves aren't done yet. And apparently Bumpus was told if he has a good week of practice, he makes the team. Kind of odd how this is shaking out.

I bet Bumpus gets a shot, but i would stick to Kent and let him figure it out. He's not a head case, he's just adjusting to playing WR in the NFL after being focused on other sports his whole life. The tools are all there and I think he's smart. Drop Samie Parker and get both Kent and Bumpus up there.

We signed another Short guy.... maybe a kickoff and punt type

http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?Prospect_ID=1237

Yvenson Bernard
Height & Weight: 5'9 - 206 lbs.
2008 NFL Draft Prospect - Scouting Report
Bernard is a patient runner; he does a great job of reading blocks and shows good cut back ability. Bernard does take some false steps, but explodes through the hole. He does not have great size for a running back in the NFL. But, in spite of the size issue, Bernard appears to get better with each carry and can carry a heavy workload. He shows good body control and can juke the first defender. He also has the burst to get outside and shows a second gear to create separation. He catches the ball well and is a good safety valve for his quarterback. He has experience returning kickoffs as well as punts and can contribute on special teams. Bernard finished with 1,037 yards in 10 games this year. Bernard has fought injuries throughout his career at Oregon State and this could scare some scouts. Bernard's combine numbers were very disappointing. He ran a slow forty yard dash at 4.83. Bernard will really have to wow a team if he is given an opportunity in a private workout. He will likely not be drafted until the 6th or 7th round (if at all).

Interesting that they went out and picked up Bernard. I shall suppress my comments regarding Forsett and the step down from him to Bernard water under the freakin' bridge...

Bernard while undersized is more of a power back IMO. Watching him some while he was on the Beavers he didn't strike me as all that quick to be a kick returner--at least not at the NFL level. He's certainly skilled and was a good college back. I expected he'd get picked and was a little surprised that he didn't. He's someone that in my limited experience watching him is someone that could run over guys at the college level, but wouldn't always elude. I don't see him being able to drag too many guys at this level.

Forsett was probably better for what we need out of that roster spot, and he already had chemistry, but I think one bonus is Bernard's more sure hands. Justin did drop a few. You know Mike hates that.

Also with regards to having two kickers, and no receivers- I think we should rename this years team: Field Gulls. Clare Farnsworth of Seattle PI also called the new receiver cores of Parker, McMullen, Taylor & Pain The 4 Horsemen of the Apocolypse. Classic.

Ahhh, but that would be a horrible insult to the blog of the same name which certianly does not advocate having two kickers on the roster.

Holy ****! I haven't paid attention this week and am just now seeing this. Yvenson was one of the top RBs nationally and continued Oregon State's tradition over the last decade of producing very good rushers (see Stephen Jackson). He may be short, but he's a crafty runner.
