I'm happy with the first day. It's confirmed that the first-round pick they acquired is Denver's own pick, not Chicago's pick. This is a team that has a horrible defense (and let's face it, Robert Ayers is not an impact rookie), and will have Neckbeard at QB. It's not much of a stretch to think they could go 4-12.
Obviously Curry is a great pick. You can't go wrong with the player rated as the best player at any position in the draft. He'll also happen to be a great fit on the weakside.
I'm only so-so on the Unger pick. It's a good value where they got him (I thought it would have been a minor reach at #37), though I might have preferred William Beatty. Not sure how much I like giving up 3rd and 4th round picks for him, though. I guess my hope was to find some more bodies for the O-line with those picks, and they couldn't have found anyone better than Unger with those picks. I don't know, I think I'm okay with it, but would be interested to hear what others think.

I love the Unger pick, but admit possible collegiate bias. That said, my collegiate bias also means watching Unger play a lot.
Part of my problems with Spencer are with his decision-making, his injury prone nature, and how good of a blocker he is. Unger doesn't really have those problems...if the defense shows blitz, I am far more confident in Unger's ability to adjust and rally the line. I don't expect him to miss assignments, and if we want to run screens or pull the center on a running we have a guy who get the ball to the QB and then get where he needs to be.
I'd go so far as to say Unger was the most important lineman when it came to Oregon's running game. He made that team go. Oregon was a good team that constantly cycled through QBs and still managed to win. Unger was a HUGE reason for that. He lead that line and took responsibility for it. That's one thing Tobeck did well, and one thing Spencer doesn't seem to.
I'm not totally washing my hands of Spencer. I just think he might be a better fit at guard or as depth.

Unger is definitely a leader, as Sweezo said/implied. He always plays, too. He's one of those guys who just loves football, almost wills himself to be better. I just like him. I admit to being more familiar with him living out here, and my brother being a "Duck". But I don't think I'm being too effusive in thinking that we'll find a starting position for him pretty soon, be it C or OG. I just think we got ourselves a solid starter for years to come.
Is our 3rd and 4th pick too much for this? I hope not. We'll see.

For all his faults, the guy can maul, and might be better off if he doesn't have to worry about all those pesky line calls. He has one year to prove something; otherwise we're washing our hands of him, whether we want to or not.

Ha ha...just posted the same thing on the other thread.
BTW I could probably watch that footage of Aaron Curry making tackles all day. Thank God we got a guy who knows how to wrap a guy up and bring him down over and over and...

Agreed. And moving him to guard seems to play perfectly to his strengths.
Seattle has some interesting choices to make on the offensive line now. Assuming everyone's healthy, what's the starting lineup? Sims and Spencer have always had potential, Wahle has the history, and Wrotto and Willis looked pretty good at the end of the year when injuries to others gave them the chance to finally play a bit.

I'd be tempted to cut Wahle and take him out of the equation. My ideal would be for Unger to win the center job, with Spencer and Wrotto winning the guard jobs. Willis is probably more likely to win at RG, and while that's not terrible, it's not inspiring either. It might be better to have him as the insurance tackle. Sims can be the bench player he was always meant to be.

Why pick a QB here in the 6th Round? We can always find a FA 3rd stringer with some experience. We're going after one next year, and it better be Colt McCoy, although I'll accept Bradford.

seems like people on many boards are implying there is something wrong with Unger. Does anyone know what they are knocking about him? People keep saying they don't like him, but never mention why. Obviously, there are some positive posts about him here, but other boards seem to question the pick.

He's one of those guys who if you just look at the "physicals" and the "combine-like" numbers you might find it easy to take such a stance towards him. That and perhaps the fact that he played different positions on the offensive line in college, the "tweener" thing.
He's one of those guys, however, where the total package will quite possibly transcend the sum-of-the-parts. He's obviously dedicated to maximizing his talent, has strong leadership qualities, and really loves the game.
We'll just have to wait and see.

I keep reading that Unger's greatest asset is versatility. That has me a little bit nervous. I don't want versatile; I want good. The second round isn't when you draft someone to plug in at multiple positions in case of injury. That's what the fourth and fifth rounds are for, when you can get a Ray Willis or a Pork Chop Womack. In the second round you should be getting a rock-solid starter at one O-line position.
For what it's worth, I also read somewhere that when the Cowboys froze up and passed on their second-round pick before trading down, it was because they were zeroing in on Unger and Mohammed Massaquoi, and had no contingency plan when those two players were taken right ahead of them. So at least there was someone else out there who liked Unger at that spot.
