I've got a good feeling about our Seahawks this year. There's some players who are impressing me this first preseason game.

Go Nick Reed!

Reed and Bennett both looked good. Making the D-line decisions tough for the coaches.

So...any thoughts on what you liked or didn't like from the Chargers game?

Positives:

Nick Reed: Fast and smart...he was constantly getting pressure and you could see why a coach would like him. I'm not sure he's a DE or that this team is a good fit for him but he was noticeable...he looked like he may be quick enough to convert to LB.

Colin Cole: He was signed to plug up the middle. He did just that.

Hasselback: Looked healthy. Hooray!

J. Babineaux: Made plays at safety, and was timely with his tackles.

Mike Teel: Looked better than Greene or Frye ever did...good for him.

Defensive line: What was once a weakness is now a definite strength. Deep, talented...I'm excited.

Offensive line: Looked decent in run blocking and pass pro.

Negatives:

Kelly Jennings: Who cares about an interception thrown directly at you? He was abused all night...he's just as helpless against large WR deep in the preseason as he is any other time of year. Disappointing.

Kevin Hobbs: Made Jennings looked good. Got beat, blew assignments...

Brandon Coutu: His "I've been working on adding distance to kickoffs with a new training regimen" line seems like Carlos Silva bragging about doing yoga classes during the offseason.

Deion Butler: Looked a little lost. And small.

Lawrence Jackson: Did nothing. If this team finds itself in the position where someone like Bennett, Reed, or Atkins gets cut while Jackson remains on the roster, that could be a shame. Jackson has more talent than most but seems to have zero impact on the game. He better get his ass in gear...soon.

Teel has the nicest looking pass of all the Seahawk QB's. Of course, there's a lot more to it than that in the making of a pro QB. Jennings and Jackson are both moving into the "bust" column, at the very least in relation to where we chose them in their respective drafts. Check that. Jennings is already there. I'd choose Tapp over Jackson as our 3rd rotation guy at DE as it stands now.

I thought Unger, Forsett, and that Wyoming RB all had their good moments, too. Babs is just about as strong of a nonstarter as you can ask for.

All in all, not bad. I was probably most concerned with our coverage in this game than anything else. There were just too man times where WR's were wide open. I don't know. I'll be watching closely to see who makes the cut amongst our DB candidates.

I think Tapp's already earned the distinction...he was in the game in the first drive on a passing down. And they dropped him into coverage. And he provided good coverage! Clearly not something they did on a whim and something they'll toy around with on passing downs. If the team's implementing new defensive packages that feature Tapp, while Jackson's just the 2nd team sub guy, it seems they've made their decision already.

I want the team to bring Jackson in with the 3rd unit next time, and give Reed/Atkins the time with the 2nd unit. Jackson needs to know, or at least think, that the team will choose to keep whomever helps the team win and rewards those that play hard and know what they are doing.

If Trufant is healthy [which apparently is a pretty big question], then I'm not concerned about our CB situation. Trufant and Lucas are solid starters, and Wilson could be a game-changing nickel back. Fisher didn't do anything to embarrass himself last night while Jennings and Hobbs did. One preseason game means little but Jennings is doing the same damned thing he did last year, and no amount of coaching will make him stronger against bigger targets.

Plus, when you consider how good the front four looked, if they can create pressure and lessen the need for help from the LB that frees up additional coverage downfield.

Last night, I thought the positives outweighed the negatives by a significant margin. If everyone's healthy I think it will be a fun season.

Jennings should seriously be cut at this point... I pretty sure somebody on the practice squad would do better.

I am still concerned about secondary if Tru doesn't heal up for sure, but as mentioned the D-line looks like they will pick up where a the Falcons left off and be much more effective. I think Cole and Mebane will be one of the most underrated duos in the league and Redding looked like a handful as an end.

Most shocked by Butler after the initial confidence and contract the staff has put into him.

Why are we carrying two kickers again... again?

Duckett best make those third downs or I have no idea why we need him.
