Breaking News: Mora Fired, Carroll On The Way?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4808557Can't say I'm disappointed. I didn't see much from Mora that indicated he was going to turn things around for the Seahawks. I wasn't particularly thrilled with the original hire either.
EDIT: I changed the title since the Mora firing and Carroll story are interrelated...

Thank God. I don't think he would've been canned if it was just the losing record...the way he handled himself and personnel matters over the course of the season was completely unprofessional. I think the 'Hawks had to think re-signing certain players was going to be difficult if Mora was still around.

Now is the time to strike a Cower or someone who can bring us enough spotlight to play a game on national tv here and there... not to mention someone who can actually win.
Well, good job Nate, TJ, and Branch who brought the lack of trust to light. Branch you did something for our team... yay... it's africkenmazing even if it wasn't catching a pass.

People are speculating Leslie Frazier is such a hot name to satisfy the Rooney Rule.
I believe you only fire Mora for one of two reasons:
1.) The Seahawks already have talked to someone who wants the GM/HC position.
2.) The GM the Seahawks really want, didn't like the job Mora did and wants to bring in his own head coach.
Both of which make me okay with the move.
Also, Danny O'Neill said that this came straight from Paul Allen. He wanted a whole new direction.

Frazier's actually pretty well respected, I believe. He's drawn a lot of interest from teams in the last year and seems close to landing a head coaching gig.
Still, hiring a head coach before hiring a permanent GM would be stupid. The head coach should be the GM's call...

I think heavy's probably right on a number of levels there. Rooney, respected, possibly interest by a GM candidate in him.
Assuming Heckert is out of the loop, I like a few of the other candidates. Keim(arizona), Ross(Giants), DeCosta(Baltimore)... but as far as I know no one has formally interviewed, so I'm guessing Paul just really was tired of Mora.
Oh and several things I've searched on Frazier do suggest he's a legit candidate and lots of 'Hawk boards are clamoring over him, but I'm still a get a star coach type of guy. Two young coaches that lose the players would be pretty dang damaging to ever getting the vets to play a system with faith.

Oh he's definitely a legitimate candidate. He is the DC for the #1 D in football, that makes him legit. That being said, I'd be happy with him as a HC, it's just everyone is saying his name right now I believe for the Rooney Rule.

Chris Mortensen said he'd be surprised if it isn't Carroll and that they have already started to talk financials.

But who would that be? Cowher's the only big name coach out there I can think of off the top of my head...and I'm not really crazy about Cowher. Cowher benefitted from possibly the best/most consistent front office in football when he was successful.

Whoa... Carroll. He's high profile for sure. We'd certainly have a guy who knows offense in there.

Although if Carroll was hired, and brought Sarkisian and Holt over as assistants I'd be ecstatic.

Makes you wonder if Carroll knew something about the Reggie Bush case. As now the OJ Mayo came to a close, and they're not going to punish the Basketball program and Football program together, he figured it'd be best to get out now.
Just food for thought.

McKnight Leaving USC For Draft
8th January, 2010 - 1:49 pm
ESPN - Joe McKnight said Friday that he will leave USC to enter the upcoming NFL draft.
"The time is right," McKnight said. "This was my first healthy season and I really don't want to come back and risk injury."
McKnight was held out of the Emerald Bowl against Boston College in December amid an ongoing investigation into whether he violated rules by using an SUV that does not belong to him, as well as his relationship with the vehicle's owner, Santa Monica businessman Scott Schenter.
Maybe Joe knows

Caroll? Offense??

I'm liking the future of Seattle's D if these PC rumors are true (he could just be looking for a raise at SC), but he's no offensive whiz.
