Ode Burrell Jr., who played football at Mississippi State and with the AFL's Houston Oilers in the 1960s, died Saturday at the age of 69 of complications from diabetes.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula, according to funeral home officials. Burial will be in Serene Memorial Gardens in Escatawpa.
Burrell coached high school and junior college football after his playing days.
Burrell played six seasons with the Oilers. He played in the AFL All-Star Game in 1965. He finished his pro career in 1969 with 1,088 yards rushing and three touchdowns. He also had 112 receptions for 1,379 yards and nine TDs.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a son, a daughter, a sister and four grandchildren.
