All I can say is, thank God it's Game 1 and the Lakers are absolutely horrific. This is a 20+ point loss against any decent team. Hopefully Lue chews their asses out over the turnovers, that has to be cleaned up immediately.

Kawhi, Wall, Luke and Zu were the bright spots tonight.

Ugly win but we'll take it. Team is rusty and still in preseason mode.

First of all Zu might be that guy now. He did it all and honestly deserves a few more touches for shots. Great to see Kawhi back. We need him healthy. Wall is that guy for us at pg. PG was good and bad. Reggie needs to be second string. Kennard needs more shots and Mann will need to get some of Powell's minutes. Not really a fan of his game at all

Game ball goes to Zu. He looked like a man on a mission out there tonight.

Kawhi looked fine out there. Wonder how long this weird playing time Lue will use on him.

Wall looked quick and explosive. Mid range game was on as well. Expecting him to start soon.

PG was pretty awful tonight. I am fine with the missed shots. But the casualness he played with irks me big time. I know it's game one but he's got to clean it up.

Wall and Leonard look healthy and that’s the biggest takeaway.

Zu and Morris look solid.

Kennard looks amazing.

Poor Powell. He was getting slapped around with no calls lol.

PG and Jackson can’t be so loose with the ball.

Wasn’t pretty but we’ll take the W and move on.

agree with much of the above

zubac might be that guy now, but even if he isn't, he's such good value for this team. i'm sure he has his detractors still, but they've always been trifling fools who don't know basketball so what are you gonna do. just glad that lue's the HC and willing to play him as necessary.

thought kawhi looked totally fine and obviously with some volume the team's going to look much stronger than they did tonight. i know it looked kinda rough at times, especially when you consider the lakers roster is completely worthless, but bear in mind that

A. kawhi was limited in minutes, and off the bench
B. paul george was pretty yucky
C. powell was also kinda yucky

you have a buncha guys who are still finding their roles (primarily wall/jackson/powell), and kawhi kinda doing that part-time, too. like, sure it looked sloppy but i don't think it's anything to be worried about.

probably the most pleasant surprise is wall, of course. he's either gotta hit some 3's or take less of them but the rest of what he's doing is splendid. even if he doesn't start, he's gonna be closing out the games for sure. the lineup we saw to finish the game is probably indicative of what we'll see most games, give or take certain matchups.

Clips win by 6

PG +16 with 11 rebs despite 5 TOs
Reggie +9 [let's not bury him yet]
Kawhi +5

Zu +13 14 pts 17 rebs and 5 blks in 35 MINUTES!!--very quietly maybe his finest game as a Clipper

Wall minus-3 but an impressive 15-4-3
Marcus 14 points and a +12

Powell a dreadful minus-12 despite every other starter being in the plus
RoCo and Batum 3 points in 24 minutes but got some rebs

Mann odd man out

I need to see Kennard and Zubac in every minute John Wall is on the floor. John can unlock them. We can let Pg-Kawhi occupy both forward positions as they should be.

Ty should ditch small ball unless we're playing against Luka.

This game started well for Clippers but very quickly became a sloppy and ugly performance from the second quarter on.
I am glad to see them win but they need to quickly get it together for the next game. Kings might not be as forgiving.

Also, they allowed the Lakers to fight back and think they could win - Clippers sleep walking through this game almost.

Reggie Jackson reminded me very quickly why I got stressed out last season with his turn overs and his not needed but forced three point shots.

Clippers missed a lot of free throws this game. Maybe its the nerves of the first official game and I know they can shoot much better.

Not sure if Diabate will get a look later in the season but he's a 6'10" guy that can switch and guard positions 1-5. Luka wouldn't want hunt him like he does Zu

Not worried about last night's game at all. Lakers were treating it like a playoff game while the Clips were working on conditioning and line-ups.

The Kawhi to Zu lobs are going to kill teams this year. They have good chemistry together.

Some areas of improvement:
1. Don't want to see is PG playing 36 minutes a game regularly. Too deep a bench for that. We need to focus on 6-7 guys in double figures every night.

2. FT shooting was abysmal, but I expect it to improve. All of those misses were from players with career FT%>75% (several over 80%).

3. No more 30+ point quarters. - I believe Kawhi pointed it out after the game

4. Intensity - They need to be able to bring that hyper intensity they young teams are bringing (e.g. Minny, Memphis). I want to see them just throttle some teams, but they just don't play with that mentality.

Prediction: Patrick Beverley will be wearing a new uniform by the end of November. He is a tradeable asset that Lebron and AD will tune out very quickly. He is too intense for them. He is probably a better fit in Chicago or another EC team trying to make the playoffs.

Don’t get your hopes up, Wall has played 70 games in the past 4 seasons. I hope he succeeds but he has been more injury prone than anyone in nba history.
A big part of that was Houston telling him to stay home last year

Yeah George could of used fewer minutes to keep him fresh but it’s early. I think Powell will figure it out and get those calls later on.

31% from three
64% from the line
22 turnovers

Once we clean those up, it's going to be a different animal.

Kawhi obviously still doesn't have his legs under him, I wouldn't be against utilizing him off the bench until he gets his stamina back

Yes, that's my biggest reservation too. We've always been vulnerable to young athletic teams and now there are some really skilled ones out there this year. We have a lot of key guys over 30 and the second-oldest roster in the NBA.

There are going to be days where we look sluggish and low energy, but it's just because we're old. Good thing we have depth to counteract the age.
