When there is 5 minutes or less left in the 4th qtr , every possession counts.
John Wall should not take deep threes and instead find your best player and give them the ball. John Wall missed that deep three and then Wizards hit a three on the other end.
Kawhi and Batum two man game is great to see.

Feels good to finally get a win against a team you’re supposed to beat.

Re: Game #28 Clippers @ WIZARDS Saturday 12/10 4pm [NOTE TIME]
i think that'll do it
big night by pg. had a couple "bad pg" moments but they were blips, rather than anything else. important to note he had 40+ minutes, so i'm gonna go ahead and say he's fully recovered from his hamstring strain. just wanna add that for all the clamor about him missing games to rest, the alternate reality we could have been looking at was him coming back too soon, playing in a b2b when he shouldn't have been, and then boom down he goes for 6-8 more weeks. yeah it's not fun to grit our teeth and keep him or kawhi out for these kinds of injuries, but the cost of pushing them could have been far worse.
kawhi was pretty much not very good for most of the game, at least by his standards. but you just really couldn't feel all that much of his impact, at least until late in the game with a great pass to batum, timely layup, and great defense on KP to end their chances. but that's ok, i'd rather have him playing than not, and he needs as many game reps as possible, even if they're subpar. his shot will come around. not worried about him at all despite how many people i see screeching how washed up he looks.
morris played quite well, but i think you could really feel the game change whenever batum/luke came into the game (and as a corollary, when zubac left). i think it's pretty clear lue and the team are going to feature luke more than mann, and i get it. sucks, but i get it. my dream is that lue asks luke to study up on handling the ball and try to use him as a point guard, even if just for spot minutes, because boy that would change the complexion of this team. i don't think reggie's the answer.
and on that note, i don't think wall is, either. kinda disappointed in wall's game. started off ok but then i think he just hunted for his own shots too much and he made some bad decisions in the third that kept things uncomfortably close. his rotations on defense were not good, either. tonight was kinda the night he should have been able to show what our end game/death star lineup should ideally look like, and well, it looked like it kinda flopped to me. even if kawhi was 100%, wall just didn't do the things i would have wanted him to do to be like "ok well yeah, this team has some real magic with him in there."
either way, i'm happy to accept a win and observe some progress and definition for the team.

Awesome win! Saw Kawhi with some great defense at the end. PG did well and Batum had a great 4th! I was a little worried about him at the start of the season that age may be getting to him but he has looked great recently.

Is there still a chance Clippers want to have a traditional point guard? Or are they giving that up wholeheartedly and accept having shooting guards, forwards and centers all take turns being a point guard?

Needed win by the Clippers. But, is basically every PF/C in the league going to have a big game against the Clips this season? Because it sure seems that way.

The last traditional point guard is the one and only Chris Paul. You know how that turned out.
The 21st century point guard is Trae Young, Ja Morant. Ball-dominant.
By all accounts, the top point guard currently is Steph Curry. The greatest shooter of all time.
The next best is Luka Doncic, a Larry Bird-type.
James Harden is James Harden. Russell Westbrook can average you 10 assists too but he's...Russell Westbrook. And John Wall can get you Westbrookian numbers but is that winning basketball?
We tried to teach T-Mann to play point guard but it failed. Kennard too, probably. Just like JJ Redick. They're not even secondary ballhandlers.
Kawhi and PG are incredible secondary ballhandlers, with assist numbers higher than many NBA so-called point guards. With them on the floor, we don't need a Trae or Ja or even a Luka. And I think y'all are underestimating the fit that is Reggie Jackson. He doesn't need 20 points a game or even 15. He's happy to bring the ball up, get "hockey assists" and stick the catch-and-shoot.
There is no magical point guard out there for us. It's all about fit, teamwork, and chemistry. Reggie should play 24 minutes not 30, and should be the 4th option, not the second, and never the first.
And I DO think J-Wall's gonna come around and take care of the rest, and give us the lift we need when we need it. Guys like this man don't grow on trees [and agree to come play for you for near the minimum!].

So, an intangibles point guard. Somebody who won't wow you on the box score, but will always make the right offensive play, whether it's passing the ball to a player who can make a play to another teammate, acting as a scoring decoy to screw with the defense, or just being a presence meant to inspire his teammates or intimidate his opponents in an attempt to psyche them out a la Patrick Beverley.
A.K.A. the stuff that only exists in my Preventions metric.

Yes. Intangibles exist. Otherwise a robot or any mutt with a stat sheet could coach.

Over at Clippers East, the mutts are looking at the box score and douching PJ Tucker putting up zeroes in every category except Minutes Played. But PJ has the best plus/minus except for Embiid.
And the people's favorite, backup backup center Paul Reed, has the worst plus-minus on the Sixers. So of course the mutts say that only means he needs MORE minutes.

So it goes, brother. So it goes.

A win is a win and I'll take it. PG was a stud. Morris and Batum balled out. Kuzman done turned himself into a legit player once he got away from Bron-ball

I think when PG and Kawhi are actually healthy and playing full minutes, Reggie can actually do 30 MPG because those guys do the heavy lifting. Of course, when PG and Kawhi are healthy we don't need 30 MPG from him if Wall is healthy.
Right now we only got half Kawhi, half of the time. We'll see how good we can be if and when Kawhi is at full strength (even with load management as before.)

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Brandon out there and moving Coffey for Naz Reid, as much as I like Amir, I feel like Reid would be the perfect five for the remainder of this campaign. Just let BJ mop up the Coffey minutes.

Coffey is regular season insurance. He does not mop up. At 6'7", he can start or fill in at all 3 wing positions. And he does. His minutes are meaningful, and giving him a decent contract to remain a Clipper was a great move.
I don't think Amir will see the court in the playoffs, or at least I hope he won't--we're screwed. But he's going to give us 1000+ quality minutes in the regular season this year. Total props.

I’d like to hold on to Amir too, since I think his contract is very good relative to his quality. But I (still) like the idea of getting a PF/C. Batum and RoCo are SFs that “grown” (and aged) into small ball Cs—but both are small for that. A big that is really too perimeter oriented and quick footed for Zu and is too big for a non-bulky 6’7” to guard comfortably--someone like Porzingis or Mo Wagner—is going to cause us problems. Ideally, the problem would be solved by Mook, but he plays small and has cooled off a lot after a strong start to the season.
There ae actually quite a few players that would fit the bill for us. I keep saying Sacramento because, with Murray getting plenty of run at PF and the team doing (very) well, they’re splitting about 40 minutes per game between Chimezie Metu, Trey Lyles, KZ Okpala and Richaun Holmes—all of which are solid 15-20 mpg (at least) players. Orlando has some extra players in the frontcourt. Naz Reid—yeah, they don’t seem to want/need a third tower. I’m psyched with how Diabate is developing but doubt that will help us a lot this year—and I think we need the help/size now.

Naz Reid is a solid piece for the Wolves. Why would they give him up for Coffey?
