I think if the team gets into a rut, it'll be hard to get out of it without some encouragement and positivity, which is what Russ brings... I think.

do they really? that's a shame

being positive and having a positive mindset is extremely powerful. and i would think russ is a person who fully understands how fortunate he is to be playing a game that he loves for money that will affect his family generations down the line. it's not only ok to be happy, it's good to be happy.

Too many people have the idea that the personality that dwells on failure and ruminates on it is more caring, or more competitive. There isn’t anything that supports this idea, in fact, the personality that’s able to accept unpleasant situations, feel and process it and move on to the next situation is “healthier”.

i agree with that but i would bet real monies that the majority of people who criticize him for being this or that are ones who have this idea that if they just had his body and athleticism that they'd do it so much better, and are really simply just looking to inflate their self-worth.

Here is my very sophisticated analysis [you may need to read it a few times before it gels]:

If Westbrook makes us better, I love the guy. If he doesn't then he is still Westbrick to me.

That is all, you may go back to your normal kibbitzing business

LOL, that is an apt comment on sports fans in general.

Yeah nice breakdown there.

How the team has been using Russ' is similar/reminds me, to how Brooklyn and Denver have used Bruce Brown.

strong athletic guard who is a suspect jumpshooter but is reliable-to-good finisher in the paint, ball handler, passer, defender, rebounder, cutter, roller, screener, etc. Using him like a big man in the offense to allow him to stay on the floor and not hurt the offense too much, and then opportunistic defensively with energy.

Inverted offense, positionless basketball element there.

I thought Westbrook's performance in the Warriors game was really strong. He did so many things to contribute.. his stat line - 27 minutes - 15 points; 9 boards (4 of which were offensive); 2 steals, 7 assists... and a +10 while committing only one foul.

Yes, I'd like to see better than 6 of 16 shooting but overall a great contribution.

That works for me. If Westbrook continues to play like that, then maybe just maybe Ty Lue is able to get out of Westbrook what some other of his recent coaches have not.... and if that is true I like our chances in the post-season.

p.s. Thrilled to see fLakers drop another one tonight.

I think what other teams need to start worrying about is that Russ is regaining his confidence. He will likely put up one or two triple doubles before the end of the regular season. If this team continues to roll and Russ keeps gaining confidence in his fit, watch out. His 1.4 stls/gm have been a welcome addition.

Lue definitely made a mistake playing him so much in the 2nd half. Mann or Hyland should have taken some of his minutes

No on Hyland. The Magic were being very physical. Hyland would have been terrible. His buck 50 frame wouldn't have fared well. We weren't stopping them defensively without Hyland. What was Hyland going to do stop the Magic?

he likely wouldn't have missed 3 free throws and committed so many turnovers. True, he would have been bad defensively. I'm not saying he should have played a lot of minutes, but it was clear that Westbrook was awful after the first quarter, so somebody should have taken his minutes- maybe Mann should have got all of them

In other non-Marcus Morris news [yes there is]

Kawhi Leonard gets real on Russell Westbrook after first month with Clippers

“Just having a Hall-of-Fame point guard on the floor. He brings energy to the team, he brings pace… He plays both ends of the floor, he rebounds the ball… He’s been doing a great job,” Kawhi said, via Clippers reporter Joey Linn of SI.

That’s as much praise as you can expect from Kawhi Leonard, so this actually speaks volumes of how impressed he has been with Russ since Westbrook joined the squad.

In 13 games played since his cross-town move from the Los Angeles Lakers, Westbrook has put up numbers of 14.1 points on 47.3 percent shooting, to go along with 5.2 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.2 steals in 30.0 minutes per contest. He’s obviously no longer the stat-stuffing superstar he once was during his MVP run, but there’s no denying that Russell Westbrook will be integral to the Clippers’ success this season as well as their title aspirations. Kawhi Leonard seems to agree.
