just hold the fort Russ

So much of this has to do with expectations I think, with Russ and many other of the residents of our Home for Lost Souls. He just needs to be a spark and somewhat efficient initiator to help our team, whereas the Lakers traded for and expected a superstar.

I'm sure Russ will have a turkey of a game in the near future, and that will be okay. He's not quite as fast as before but is still a bull, so can really help shoulder the load when 1 (or both!) of our main duo is out. By all appearances he has 100% absolutely fit in and contributed in the locker room as well.

BUT 12 of those 36 points came from what we would all consider bad 3 point shots. The type of shots that gave him his bad reputation as a chucker. Not sure what to make of that. I hope he himself knows that he got hot and luck was on his side a bit too. He is not suddently Curry.

See below.

True but I believe at least 4 out his 5 threes came in the first quarter when the team was struggling to score and on the verge of getting blown out early, almost right from the jump. I'm not sure if he even shot a three in the 2nd half. He sure as hell didn't chuck away in the 4th at all and seemed to understand that it would ruin our chances if he did. He was really efficient all game long.

Russ was the worst possible fit playing next to Bron

Since we don't see or hear much about their practices, I can only go by what I have seen on the court. From my perspective, I see 3 things:

1. Russ's teammates are learning his pace and have added some pep in their step to keep up
2. Appears that the Clips have been working with Russ's shooting and he is getting more effective at using the glass than when he first arrived
3. Mann and Hyland are learning how Russ pushes the pace and trying to get to his level
4. Russ is pushing pace in a more controlled manner most of the time
5. Chemistry between Russ and the bigs.

We gonna have quite the grudge match tomorrow night

I am wondering if-
A. Kawhi is still out for personal reasons
B. If not, is he gonna play both Griz and Pels games since he just sat out a game

A VERY good topic for the offseason that I don't want to get into now with the dogpile contingent that pounces on every word.

Very many rejects have done well here and very few have done better once they left.

Rejects Russ and Hyland are carrying this team at the moment. NOBODY could have predicted that. I'm tempted to credit the coach but I don't want to get into it with the dogpile on that either.

This is supposed to be fun. :-)

Who cares if Kawhi is available or not, let's just have some fun watching the game, win or lose.

In all seriousness, I'd rather he played against the Pelicans.

Yah, that's sort of the point. I'm sure at least some of his teammates are just worn out with this stuff. Cancelling at 3PM on game days and now no idea what the rotation will be tomorrow either. I read some in the org are burnt out too. Having fun playing the game is a component of winning too. It can't be all angst and crappiness.

Russ and Bones have been a godsend. They come in with a clean slate and just play.

While I really want to get one of the next two, getting the first collectively gave us a chance to breathe I think. I agree 100% it’s more important Kawhi plays against the Pels.

TBH I’m not expecting us to win tonight, I think Memphis will be really fired up. But I’m not giving us no chance either. 8-)

Kawhi is obviously still a dominant player on the floor (when he plays). But sometimes I think he might actually be low spectrum autistic. I don’t mean it as a criticism, I think he is a good guy. But there’s always been a sort of detachment and disconnect with him and his teams.

When Kawhi has sat out for "load management" we have known about that. I don't think anyone should be hating on Kawhi taking a "personal" day shouldn't be assumed as load management.

With the Wiggins situation in GS, I think when a player takes a "personal" day, we need to understand that there may be some things going on in their lives bigger than basketball.

Kawhi's father was murdered when he was 16, so I think family is very important to him.

Everybody gets the benefit of the doubt but this isn't the first time Kawhi has cancelled out on game day. When it's a pattern and not the exception, you just don't care anymore. Kawhi has operated under his own rules from the first, including showing up late for the team plane, etc. Private dressing room that first year. It's not a stretch to say this pattern is not conducive to team spirit.

A big part of it is all the mystery involved. Ty has often said he had no idea when Kawhi would be back during his many absences. Everyone's on a need-to-know basis, and that's added stress. Am I playing tonight? Am I starting tonight? What position? What matchup am I watching video on to prepare?
