Eric Gordon per Woj

Post#1 » by PeteyPablo » Thu Jun 29, 2023 3:49 am

The Clippers aren’t guaranteeing guard Eric Gordon’s $21 million contract and he’ll become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. Gordon has averaged 16 points on 37 percent three-point shooting in his 15-year career.

i think its a good move. No one was trading for 20 mil dollar eric gordon. he was a rental. he played ok during the regular season but wasnt as good when we needed him in the playoffs. He couldnt defend booker. Also he was a role player when we had Kawhi. Without Kawhi, not very effective.

I am happy that it gives more PT for Bones, Mann, Boston etc... Now get off of Morris without giving much draft capital. If we have to burn Powell to achieve it, I m ok with it. We have too many players. I would rather Roco the mins.

Everyones crying about Whitmore. Who knows if he will be good

The waiver will drop the Clippers projected tax bill from $169M to $59M.

Even for Ballmer, a hundred million here and a hundred million there, and it starts to add up to REAL money.

I liked him in his first tour, and again on the more recent one, but if cutting his 20 million salary saves ONE HUNDRED TEN MILLION FREAKING DOLLARS, well what are you gonna do.
The Clipper fan understands the Book of Exodus better than anyone... what it's like to struggle 40 years in the wilderness... and Genesis.. why Cain went after Abel... So fLakers, look out... we're coming.

I understand it financially, but I liked Gordon in the limited time he played for the Clippers last season and also was attached to him for sentimental reasons. I wish him the best- just not against the Clippers!

This trade was so obviously awful from the moment it was announced, and it just kept getting worse over time. The only silver lining here is that the FO cut their losses instead of giving EJ $30 million in an attempt to save face like was being suggested yesterday. I'd love to believe the other rationale of freeing up minutes for young players, but this FO and coaching staff have done nothing ever to make me expect that to happen.

I'll still remember EJ for his first stint here, not his second.

All of this.

Most of the beat writers keep hinting moves are about getting younger. Anything that forces Lue’s hands to not lean on the vets.

Now fingers crossed they have something lined up for Morris and Powell (if need be).

Besides sentimental value, he didn't bring much else and looked washed in the playoffs.

Fine with me. I'm a fan of EJ but definitely not for $20M

The moment we were out of the playoffs his fate was sealed. His contract for next year was only guaranteed if we won the title. Surprised they didn't swing a deal with SA before the cut deadline to move his contract in exchange for a 2033 2nd round draft pick. Maybe the trade exception implications were too much.

EJ signs with the Suns for 2 years / 6 Million.

I remember the first or second year with the Clippers where he averaged 22ppg for the season.

He was a young stud with star potential. Then was traded the following year for CP3.

I am glad to see he is still in the league. BG32 made a comment on camera saying who cares who we gave up for CP3 - it’s Lob City. Ironically EJ is still playing meaningful minutes nearly 15 years later.

I'm definitely a fan, but I can see why they didn't pick up his option both for salary reasons and because he is a step slow now.
