Vanilla Theis "The World Champion"

Post#1 » by Captain Ballmer » Fri Nov 17, 2023 5:02 pm

The dude just cooked Team USA like 2 months ago. It's really hard to miss the Basketball IQ in him.

He has that skillset to be the Center for closing games. Different than Zu, Mason, Hartenstein and the corpses of Ibaka&Cousins.
Best of Law Frank
PG-OKC trade.
Gave away Norm for J. CoLLins, K.Porter Jr for M.Beaucump, franchise icon Lou will for washed up Rondo, Hartenstein to sign washed up J.Wall
Drafting gems in 1st rd like Kobe Brown, M.Kabengele, Keon Johnson, Yanick Konan

His lateral quickness is better than I thought it would be, looking at his body. He's not that old but old enough to fall out of a developmental roster, but looks plenty good enough to help us and seems fundamentally solid. Not a great 3 point shooter but good enough to take the open ones.

sometimes a guy who can do a little bit of everything (while not tanking your greatest strengths) is of enormous value. hopefully theis can do that for us.

His size (6'8" barefoot, 7'0" wingspan, 240 pounds) is really good for a C/PF. Can play at PF depending on matchups. Decent passer and range, okay rebounder-- slightly better than average at positions where we need it. He'll help.

Career average 4.9 fouls per 36 minutes. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' bout.

I'm rooting for him and I hope he helps the team but at the end of the day its still another old unathletic player jumping right into the mix and getting minutes just because. Sorry but I honestly believe guys like Diabate and Kobe Brown offer more help and intangables than guys like PJ Tucker and now Theis

Tucker and Theis bring "intangables" up the wazoo. Winners. That's why they're here at all.

Diabate? Let's not even go there. And Kobe is gonna get his audition on the Big Stage soon enough. We are SO desperate for a stretch-4. Been looking for one for YEARS.

Does Kawhi qualify as a stretch 4?

Or what are the specs of a stretch four ?

He is listed as 6’7 225lbs and 7’3” wingspan with elite shooting percentages

Theis does seem like a decent enough athlete, but I would also separate his version of old from Tucker's. Theis is mid to late prime old (31), you still have pretty good level of your athleticism at 31, 32, 33ish, Tucker on the other hand is 38 years old. There's a whole average career worth of NBA seasons between Tucker and Theis.

Diabate and Kobe are interesting for sure. Theis has the advantage of being the only C-ish type guy in the roster who can hit a shot outside of 10 feet, that alone will get him opportunity.

I didn't know much about him and thought it would be a bad pickup. I'm glad to say I was wrong.
