Here is some more facts to counter your dreaming:http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/chris_mannix/02/05/cassell/
The Clippers have been inundated with trade offers in recent weeks. Besides Cassell, L.A. has been approached about dealing injured power forward Elton Brand and surprising center Chris Kaman. But Cassell, a savvy veteran who boasts career averages of 15.9 points and 6.1 assists, is a hot commodity.
No way would we buyout a hot commodity when we can trade him for something else. Are you serious when you say they would not disrepect him? This is a business no matter how you put it and if you are bussiness man would you accept nothing for something just to make somebody happy with nothing in return.
"A lot of the Cassell stuff may just be about KG," a league source said. "I'm not sure Danny is all that interested."

Alright, we'll see. But there is only one reason to why Ainge didn't sign Stoudamire - he is holding out for Sam.

There is also the possibility that the Celtics don't even want Cassell. Boston director of basketball operations Danny Ainge passed on Troy Hudson in the offseason and made no effort to acquire Damon Stoudamire when Stoudamire was bought out by Memphis last week (he signed with the Spurs). Ainge has been unwavering in his support of second-year point guard Rajon Rondo. He's also been satisfied with combo guard Eddie House as Rondo's primary backup.

That makes no sense. The reason we didn't want Hudson and Stoudamire is because we are holding out for Cassell. Hudson and Stoudamire are also undersized, and we need a big PG.

Because the Boston Celtics have been using non-point guard types to back up starter Rajon Rondo and because Clippers point guard Sam Cassell

The Clippers would be smart to appease Cassell on this. Well, Sterling is stubborn, but I think the buyout is actually a smart business move.

Sam has already gone public with his desire and it's been reported in at least two major papers. You've got to realize that an owner needs to work to build a team, build a franchise, not just acquire pieces. A good move would be to do Sam right. He's a winner and gave the Clippers one of their best years. The team is not going to the playoffs this year, it's clear. Now it's time to build some karma points and start building a reputation that will make it easier to attract free agents and trade with other GM's. Get a high draft pick, develop Thornton, a healthy Brand and the team could be right back in it.

KG and Cassell are talkers. Other players are listeners. Don't y'all think that the word will be spread far and wide if Sam isn't respected in this? Why obsess on what you think you'll get back for a 36 yr-old pg in the last three months of his contract. If there really is going to be that incredible, great deal to be had out there, I guess you've got to take it. Otherwise, let Sam go with your blessings.

You have to understand he is more interested in his long term future rather than to just go out and win a championship this year. He knows somewhere down the line The Clippers will use him in within the coaching staff. He is already coaching the team and helping with the development of our young talent. You really have to be dilusional to think The Clippers will just buy him out and hand him over to Boston. The Clippers announcer said they will not let Sam go for nothing especially when several teams have shown interest in him and have much more desirable assets to offer for him. Ask yourself this if you had a classic car and you had no interest in selling it but you have received several offers for tens of thousands of dollars yet this collector that has a pretty nice collection wants to pry it from your hands for a few measly dollars. Now what would you or any other smart business man would do? I know you want to improve your team but come on the rest of the League is not going to do all they can in their power to help you guys win a championship.

The grass is not always greener on the other side even if your teams main color is green. Keep in mind no other team that Cassell has been on has accepted Sam and let Sam be Sam as much as The Clippers have. The team and the fans really appreciate Sam for his contribution to this team and believe me his future with us will go a whole lot further than the end of this season even if he does sign with another team next season. I hope his jersey will be the first jersey retired by the Clippers because no other player has been worthy of such a compliment other than Brand but his jersey will not be retired for quite some time.

Well like I said, if there is actually a good trade out there for Cassell, yeah, you go for it. We'll see over the next 2 weeks. If not, Sammy can always come back to LA to coach after winning a ring in Boston, can't he? :D

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball ... n_celtics/

Cassell told The Boston Globe this morning that his agent, David Falk, has had conversations with the Clippers about a potential buyout and he is interested in joining the Celtics if such happens.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgns

"There's no truth to it," Cassell said by telephone from Toronto, where the Clippers play Friday night. "I never said I wanted to buy out my contract. There have been no negotiations, the team hasn't come to me about that, I have not gone to them about that."

[...]

"They misquoted me drastically," Cassell said of the report. "It's just not right for my teammates to hear I'd be a perfect fit in Boston."

Alright, two contradicting articles. I am pretty sure that the Globe misquoted Cassell, but I am also pretty sure that Cassell gave way too much information and is not trying to back down from what he said in order to stay in a good relationship with the Clippers.

So you all see that only time will tell.

Mark J. Spears, the Globe reporter who quoted Cassell, said "I stand by my story. I have the entire interview on tape and after talking to me on Wednesday morning, he was quoted saying similar things to other Boston media outlets."

So Cassell probably said what he shouldn't say and now tries to retract his quotes.

Yeah, he's a problem child. Might as well waive him. 8)
