Ford Chat Excerpt

Post#1 » by loflin3hree5ive » Thu Feb 21, 2008 6:49 pm

i can't copy and paste the espn insider chat but i'll give you guys a summary of the clippers question that was asked of chad ford today and see what you guys think about it.

ford was asked if the clippers would make a move today and if elton would test free agency this summer.

ford responded with a trade he thinks we should make today of elton, corey and a future 1st for shawn marion & jason williams expiring contract.

for discussions sake, what do you guys think about chad's idea?

I hate it. I feel that we don't need to get rid of Elton. We would only be making this deal just to clear cap space. I don't feel that our team is finished. We have next season to see how things work for us, if they don't work out next season that's when we rebuild. But not yet.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I don't like it since we're pretty much going to rebuild around Kaman and Thornton? Teams who have been doing the big trades won't be as dominate in a few years since they've traded for aged players. They've somewhat sacrificed their future for winning now. In about 2 years when some of those contracts are done the teams who made trades to win now will not be as dominate.

The only teams I would look out for in the future are GS,NO,LAL,SA,POR,UTA in the West. I'll type more after the trade deadline passes. :P

Actually i'm too lazy to type out everything I want to say so i'll just stop here lol.

Any deal which requires us to give up EB is a no-go. Plus, why would we want a ton of cap space? We're not at a point where we need to blow it up....we need to get healthy, then still suck, and THEN take on the expiring contracts. Baby steps, fellas.

i agree Chad Ford is a dumb ass! trading maggette and brand for williams and marion. what an awful trade for us. he just wants miami to be a contender again. what an ass.

What a stupid idea. Trading away Brand who was in the running for MVP two seasons ago, and Maggette, who although may have health and chemistry issues, is a helluva player, for a huge salary dump? That's just too drastic of a move. That's basically giving up on the team that was one game away from the Western Conference Finals two years ago. Everyone's trying to dump salary, but who's there available to sign? Arenas, that cocky s.o.b.? Naw, I'd rather take my chances on EB resigning with the Clips and have a killer front court with him and Kaman and go from there.

That would have been a horrible move with Miami making out like bandits. Marion for Brand is understandable in terms of value. Why would we throw in a future pick when everybody involved is practically an expiring? We'd help Miami out by further solidifying a good opportunity at a top pick this season and then help them out in the future.
