Tim Thomas for Marco Jaric

Post#1 » by ClipperEric » Tue Mar 18, 2008 9:23 pm

This came to me last night during the game.

I know Marco isn't great but we are in desperate need of another PG. Marco is set to make $6.5, $7.1 and $7.6 over the next 3 years.

Thomas sucks, and I don't know a clipper fan that wants to keep him. He will make $6.0 and $6.4 over the next 2 years.

We would have to add some filler to make it work.

The benefits to the Wolves: Cutting salary, they get to take off the last year of Marco's salary. They take on Thomas but its a big savings for a team trying to rebuild.

Benefit for the Clippers: Us fans will no longer be subjected to watching Tim Thomas every night. We get a backup PG that we know and has worked in the system before. He's a better pickup than most everybody else available, which is a very short list. The only drawback is that he will get paid $7mil for that extra year.

I'd do it. Marko has shown flashes of talent in Minnesota. There's an outside chance Minnesota can get a better return for Jaric than just shaving a year off his deal. I also don't think McHale would be very enthusiastic about trading with us again after we killed him in the Sam deal.

I liked Marko when he played for us. I would have no problems if a trade like this happened. He's a solid backup PG, and even though he makes a bit too much for his skills it's a lot better than watching Tim.

I wouldn't do the trade. Jaric makes more and has an extra year on his contract, he has one of the worst contracts in league compared to his talent. Thomas is an adequate backup 3 point shooter from the bench when healthy. He has been banged up with various injuries throughtout the season. I look for him to bounce back strongly next season if Brand returns.

Yep. thomas sucks, flat out.

"when he's not injured"???? That bum takes off games for the tiniest little hang-nail.

And he's not a 3pt shooter. He was lucky to be in a PHX system that gave him lots of open 3's. We have barely seen any of that.

And if he's lucky enough to make one, that little hand blowing thing is really annoying. Someone needs to tell him he sucks.

I agree that Marco isn't great and his contract is bad, but he's not terrible. The question is, do we stick with someone we know sucks and doesn't help the team at all, versus bringing in another PG, which we desperately need?

I'll take Jaric any day, as long as we don't have to look at thomas anymore.

I'd do it if we can get someone to back Elton/Kaman in the offseason. Sadly, Thomas has been our best option so far and since we had Rebraca & Moore.

Jaric is one hell of a defender and has one good looking girly I won't mind seeing on tv every 5 seconds.

Thomas hit 136 3's at over 38% last season. With Brand back he should be a different player.

Jaric is a POS who the Clippers don't need since he isn't a true PG. What next, bring back Bobby Simmons? None of these guys are going to return to the Clippers. If you think both players suck, then the player with the shorter contract is the one you want to have and it isn't Marco.

Jaric isn't nearly as bad as Thomas. And we need a PG far more than a backup forward, those guys are a dime a dozen. Just look at Josh Powell, now that he's getting minutes he's picked up his game a lot. We can get by with a couple of no-name backup forwards. The market for PG's is very slim.

If not Jaric, who do you recommend? Remember that the difference in contracts is $7.6 for the last year, or roughly $2.5/year. Who can we get for that price that is going to be better than Jaric?

Marko?

OH-NOOOO!!! :nonono:

Dude is a bust at the 1 position just like Smush(who we'll probably end up keeping for 2 more seasons).

Thomas looked good tonight - 9-12 from the field, 20 points in 27 minutes.
