Fazekas & Williams Receive Qualifying Offers

Post#1 » by mkwest » Tue Jul 1, 2008 5:50 am

The Los Angeles Clippers today extended qualifying offers to restricted free agents Nick Fazekas and Marcus Williams it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.

In accordance with the league’s collective bargaining agreement, in order for a team to retain its right of first refusal with respect to a restricted free agent, the team must tender the player a qualifying offer prior to June 30. A restricted free agent may sign an offer sheet with any team, but is subject to a right of first refusal with the team for which the player last played.

In 26 games played for the Clippers and Mavericks last season, Fazekas averaged 4.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 10.3 minutes per game. Fazekas, the 34th overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Mavericks, was originally signed to two consecutive 10-day contracts by Los Angeles beginning on February 27th. He was signed by the Clippers for the remainder of the season on March 18th.

Williams, a 6’7” forward out of Arizona, averaged 0.9 points in 11 games played for Los Angeles and San Antonio during the 2007-08 campaign. Williams was signed by the Clippers for the remainder of the season on March 28th.

No word on what the deal is with Paul Davis. The team supposedly had a team option that he expected to be exercised but I've haven't heard anything about that since.

Clippers won't extend offers to Shaun Livingston and Paul Davis
As a result, the players will become unrestricted free agents.

July 1, 2008

Shaun Livingston, still recovering from a devastating knee injury suffered in 2007, and Paul Davis will become unrestricted free agents today when the Clippers decline to extend them qualifying offers.

"We are optimistic about Shaun's ultimate return, but under the circumstances, we think it would be best to continue to monitor his progress while determining how best to move forward on his long-term status," Clippers President Andy Roeser said.

Forwards Nick Fazekas and Marcus Williams, both late additions to last year's team, received qualifying offers and become restricted free agents.

The Clippers are not expected to offer contracts to point guards Smush Parker and Dan Dickau, both on last season's roster.

lol I just getting ready to post that.

I'm glad that Parker and Dickau will not be offered contracts by us. I'm a little disappointed about Davis though.

^ I agree, Davis's injury must seem more of a concern for the staff than we think.

Thank god Smush is off the team for good.

Both these kids have potential to be serviceable backup's at their respective positions. I hope they make the 08/09 team. So glad Smush and D-Dick are getting the boot!

If we're not doing anything with Davis then his injury must be pertty severe. I wasn't even sure if we were gonna have Williams and Fazekas back. After all the free angency is cleared up we'll see who will stick around.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!
