Question regarding Maggette...
Can a sign and trade still happen? Or did you guys have to renounce him to sign Baron? Or can you still do a S&T because Baron hasn't officially signed yet?

Re: Question regarding Maggette...
Technically, we haven't done anything yet aside from verbally agreeing with Davis on a contract. A lot has to do with what Brand decides. Maggette isn't going to sign anything until Brand makes his decision. But the ideal plan is to sign Brand first, then renounce Maggette and Livingston and then sign Davis. If this is how it goes on Wednesday then a S&T is not possible.

Technically it could still happen since he hasn't been renounced yet. It would not be possible though for the Clippers to sign Brand and Davis and S&T Maggette at an amount greater than the MLE after both of these signings.

Re: Question regarding Maggette...
I figured this was the case, thanks.
A fellow Heat fan over at our boards posted this trade idea, what do you guys think?
"Miami trades:
Shawn Marion (17.2)
Marcus Banks (4.2)
Mark Blount (7.3)
Miami recieves:
Corey Maggette (7.0 s/t)
Patrick O'Bryant (3.3 1 yr s/t)
Tim Thomas (6.1)
Quintin Ross (3.0 1 yr s/t)
2009 Clippers 1st rounder
Golden State trades:
Baron Davis (12.0 s/t)
Patrick O'Bryant (3.3 yr s/t)
Golden State receives:
Shawn Marion (17.2)
Brevin Knight (2.0)
Clippers trade:
Corey Maggette (7.0 s/t)
Brevin Knight (2.0)
Tim Thomas (6.1)
Quintin Ross (1 yr 3.0 s/t)
2009 first rounder
Clippers receive:
Marcus Banks (4.2)
Baron Davis (12.0 s/t)
Mark Blount (7.3)
For Clippers:
Yeah, they take on Blount and Banks, but Banks is not too bad if you aren't waiting on cap space in 2010. He's a good backup. More so, they can give Baron a higher starting salary and better raises, more years if they want. So better for Baron Davis, better for Clippers. They can give Elton Brand max money as they are no longer freeing up cap space, so Brand can get a max extension, so better for Brand. They are losing Maggette anyway, so they should be happy to get him East. They lose Quintin Ross (who they'd need to lose rights to anyway). Ross gets a sweet 3 mill he probably wouldn't get in FA, so better for Ross. They lose Brevin as PG, but get Banks to make up for it. They have to take on Blount, but lose the equally frustrating Tim Thomas. More importantly than all that, they can use the MLE and the LLE to fill out their team.
C - Kaman / Blount / Jordan
PF - Brand / ? (MLE)
SF - Thornton / Patterson (LLE)
SG - Mobley / Gordon
PG - Davis / Banks"

Re: Question regarding Maggette...
I'd imagine there are much easier ways to free up a couple million to sign Brand and keep our MLE without downgrading the Clippers bench that much. No thanks.

Re: Question regarding Maggette...
Another one sided trade with the only team winning being Miami. GS and the Clippers have no incentive to include a #1 draft pick, S&T guys like Davis, Maggette and others when they receive guys with bad contracts.
No NBA team wants Banks and Blount, the only way Miami can get rid of them is to package them with something of value like Beasley.

So instead of signing Davis straight out, you expect us to give up a first rounder, our best non-post defender AND to take on two bad contracts? No way in hell.

Re: Question regarding Maggette...
I think the most we could do with Maggette is a S&T with Golden State for Baron. That allows us to get around some of the salary cap restrictions as we have when signing Baron outright.
Baron has reportedly agreed to roughly $13mil/year. We might be able to package TT ($6) + Maggette ($7) to send to GS for Baron. It depends on whether GS wants Maggette or not. We may have to throw in extra parts. Not sure how much this helps us, but it might allow us to sign Brand for more, plus Livingston, plus Powell.
