Clippers Sign Brian Skinner

Post#1 » by Houston Suns » Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:13 pm

From wiretap.
The Los Angeles Clippers signed veteran forward Brian Skinner, Vice President of Basketball Operations announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced. Originally drafted by the Clippers in the first round (22nd overall pick) of the 1998 NBA Draft, Skinner is a 10-year NBA veteran who returns to Los Angeles after playing 66 games last season with the Phoenix Suns. Skinner averaged 3.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists for Phoenix in 2007-08. “Brian Skinner is a veteran NBA player who will give us both size and depth in the middle,” Baylor said. “We are familiar with Brian, and know that he will be a good fit in his return to the Clippers.”

The clippers are shaping up, pretty well, this offseason.

Like I said in the other thread. Another good signing by the Clips. They know what Skinner is capable of on the court and they will use that advantage on the court at the center position. Also nothing worng with adding depth to your squad.

The Clippers FO is getting greedy, they just keep wanting more! Elgin must be thinking "so this is what it feels like to build a winner". Another nice pickup. Another solid vet. Welcome back, Brian!

PG - BDiddy/Hart/Taylor/Livy(?)
SG - Cat/EJ
SF - Thornton/Ricky D./Williams
PF - Camby/Thomas/Skinner/Faz
C - Kaman/Jordan/PDiddy

Depth at every position. I like, I like.

You called it illastrate, it's nice to have Brian back. Powell was nice and I wish we could keep him but Skinner is a bigger body and has more experience. I'm really liking the squad that we have for the upcoming season. This wasn't the case for me at the start of this month.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

That is what happens when you have players like Baron Davis and Camby on your team. Everybody wants to play with them.

He's come full circle. I like the signing for us. He'll provide defense, rebounding and a reliable backup to our bigs. Last year all of our bigs were down with some sort of injury at one point or another so it's good to see us beefing up at the 4 & 5 spots. It's been an amazing summer for us Clipper fans. These introductory press conferences are becoming the norm. It's still kind of a foreign feeling to me, but I like everything the team has done this summer. As long as this team gels and produces, Baylor may very well sleepwalk his way to another "Executive of the Year" award. Wouldn't that be something?

MJ, maybe he'll dye the bottom half of the goatee blue

I like the move, the team needed another back-up PF/C to pick-up sporadic 9th man minutes.

Clippers 2008-09 Roster:
PG - B. Davis/J. Hart/M. Taylor
SG - C. Mobley/E. Gordon
SF - A. Thornton/R. Davis/M. Williams
PF - M. Camby/T. Thomas/N. Fazekas
C - C. Kaman/B. Skinner/D. Jordan

It looks like Mike Dunleavy will leave the last roster-spot open like he has done before. I'm assuming that Mike Taylor & Marcus Williams will play for our D-League team most of the time until someone gets injured (hopefully no one). Anyways, I hope we still sign Shaun Livingston back but I doubt that will happen now. I'm looking forward to next season though, we'll have a strong starting line-up and bench, which could make us 10-men deep.

Signing Skinner is a very solid move. I just love having experienced guys like him and Davis rounding out the bench. They're the kind of players that winners have on their bench.

Yea, this was definately a very good move, the depth is looking real nice on the team. The off-season has been one of the most active I've seen by the Clippers, and it has been nice, a lot of good moves made even with the loss of Brand.
