Trade for Vince Carter: Cutino Mobley and Tim Thomas for him
Clippers trade Mobley and Tim Thomas to New Jersey for Vince Carter
PG Baron Davis/Hart
SG Vince Carter/Eric Gordon
SF Thornton/Ricky Davis
PF Camby/Brian Skinner
C Kaman/DeAndre Jordan
With that team you guys are contenders out west.
What do you think?

Yes please. Even though Carter has "no heart" from what others say. Please just take timmy from us. We'll throw in Elgin Baylor just to be kind.

We already are contenders out west, but still, im sure most clipper fans would do that one in a heartbeat!

Re: Trade for Vince Carter: Cutino Mobley and Tim Thomas for him
At first, this sounds great. Any way to get rid of TT is a plus. But then upon further review, VC still has 3 years left on his massive contract! So, then it's a NO! I like the situation we are in right now. Plus how much better will Vince make us?

I would do it in a heartbeat, but the Nets won't. MAYBE after next season if they want to dump salary.
TT and Mobley have 2 years left, VC has 3. It's only 1 more year. We'd have Bird rights on Camby too if we wanted to keep him, right?

We also become the most injury prone starting lineup in the league. Is VC worth $15, $16, and $17 million a year respectively for the next 3 years?

Bad idea especially since we figure to be huge players in the 2010 FA market.

I was really hoping that the Clips would consider bringing in VC next season while dangling Thomas & Mobley, but that was before everything changed. Right now I'd rather keep what we have, and go after Joe Johnson if we are targeting a 2 guard in 2010.

You don't get it! It's more FUN to have VC than TT and Mobley.

Maybe if we were the old Denver Nuggets teams that ran up 140+ every night. Then Vince would be a nice fit.
We could line up:
Baron
Vince
Ricky Davis
Thornton
Kaman
We probably wouldn't win much but it would be exciting.

Re: Trade for Vince Carter: Cutino Mobley and Tim Thomas for him
But I think if you take Ricky Davis out of that starting lineup and put Camby back in, it's a pretty good team. You obviously have some scoring in there with Baron and VC, plus Camby and Kaman for defense and boards.
Then we have Davis, Gordon, etc. off the bench.

No, I get it...I just don't know if this is the right move for the future. I'm not a big VC fan either. I'd rather see what type of player we can come up with in the 2010 draft with Camby, Thomas and Mobley off the books. With Vince's contract, that's not happening.

Three words why we don't do this trade. Well, two words and a number.
Cap Room 2010.
Joe Johnson. Chris Bosh. Just to name two.
That is all.

I know- I was just playing around-

I totally get the importance of freeing up salary for 2010.
I wonder how much gas will be left in Camby's tank in 2 years. I'm not in a rush to clear him off the books, but in 2 years it may just be time for him to go.
I do think Mobley and TT become great trade assets after the upcoming season, and that it is more realistic to hope for improving the team via trade than signing a big FA to a max offer (even if VC is not really ideal.) Every team that is not championship caliber is basically doing the same thing. If we do that, then maybe we look to re-sign Camby if he's still playing at a high level.

Re: Trade for Vince Carter: Cutino Mobley and Tim Thomas for him
If the Clippers wanted they could work a deal to get JJ now rather than wait two years later. Place Mobley,TT, second ronund pick (maybe two). They may bite, JJ wants out now and we may be the perfect place for him to go. Then offer him an extension in the second year.
If not I'm not going to lose sleep if Mobley is our starter, he is a overall a good player who is great when motivated. TT is a strong role player when he wants to be and S.Novak has to light a fire under him to stay consistent.
Also hoping we find a way to keep M.Camby he makes us a much stronger defensive team and feel he is being undervauled sometimes. The best scenario is after the two years he likes our team enough and will take a paycut to be something like a P.j brown off the bench for us.

Re: Trade for Vince Carter: Cutino Mobley and Tim Thomas for him
Yeah, I'm thinking that Camby is going to be a very important player on the Clips the next 2 years, he is going to help keep us in games when our offense struggles.
If he's still playing at a high level after year 2 and shows no drop-off, then I would really prefer we try to keep him. That's why I prefer a major trade vs. a major FA (in addition to being more attainable, we can renounce players and make max offers but will still have to stand in line with other teams while the big FA's cherry pick among the offers.)

No thanks on the rich-man's Corey Maggette.. I'd rather be a player in the 2010 market!

Re: Trade for Vince Carter: Cutino Mobley and Tim Thomas for him
I'm not much of a Vince Carter fan, we need our cap space for 2010. He also has a no trade clause, so we wouldn't be able to get rid of him if we got him.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

ehh, he plays nothing like maggette. i would pull the trigger on this trade but i wouldn't lose sleep if it didn't happen. vince carter is still very good and will help this team more than mobley and thomas would in the near future. but he's 31 and he'll be 34 when he's due for another contract. imo, he's an excellent short term solution (nobody here will cry if the clippers go deep in the playoffs for consecutive years) and his worth to the team is slightly greater than the value of having 15 million off the books in 2010. yeah joe johnson, lebron james, chris bosh, etc... as much as sterling has been willing to pay players in recent years, all those big names are still big ifs considering the fact that most are likely to resign.
yes, his contract does hurt cap flexibility for the 2010 market, but further considering the fact that carter's deal ends only a year later, it's really not too bad at all. like i said before, he's still a very good player and probably better than gordon ever will be.
