They need to sign Marbury if the Knicks buy him out, his style of play is very similar to Davis. Jason Hart can't be relied on as the primary backup PG.

Man, why does this stuff always seem to happen to us? It's only a few weeks away from opening night.

Wow, first Shareef retires, now it's White Chocolate. What other veteran is going to retire next? Dikembe? Anyways, I don't think Marbury's coming here. His ego is too big to be a backup, and I just don't see him being an effective SG. Way too undersized. I think the best fit for him is in Miami. They need a real PG desperately. And I just don't think Livingston is coming back. He pretty much burned the bridge. But hey, you never know, maybe no one is interested in him anymore, and he'll take whatever we offered him. I'd be happy if we could pick him up again, but you know deep down inside, he doesn't want to be a Clipper anymore.

Do you guys still have to pay for his contract? There should be some clause against this.

Yeah, the first thing my son thought of when I told him the news was to offer his sympathy for my being a Clipper fan --- and it's far from the first time he has been in this position and reacted this way.
But it is wonderful that whatever crazy horrible things come flying in out of left field and knock us off our feet, we never give up. That's great practice for real life.

You have to remember that most of us that we were done for the offseason after we acquired Novak. J-Will signing a one-year deal was definitely unexpected. Most of us were content with having J-Hart as the backup PG.

Now that J-Will is gone, we don't have many options. We could:

- Trade TT for Tinsley. The problem is Tinsley has 3 years left.
- re-sign Livy. He seems adamant about not coming back, but might have to reconsider.
- sign Starbury. He's definitely a better talent than J-Will, but I wouldn't want this guy in the locker room. We're volatile as it is.
- sign an unknown up-and-comer from FA or the D-League. This would be our riskiest move, but could pay dividends.

Livy would probably be our best bet at this point. For now, I'm fine with J-Hart as our backup and Taylor as 3rd string.

This is a big hit for you guys, I was looking forward to seeing Jason hit some no-look passes in a Clippers uniform. Has he given any reason why yet?

Wow, what a weird situation.

I'm all for signing Marbury. Coming off the bench to back up BD, he can help create off the dribble and doesn't have that bad of a jumper either. I think he would be humble on this team.

^ What on earth gives you reason to think that? Is it just that he'd be so thankful to be out of the Knick's grasp that he'd be happy to sit for Dunleavy? And how long would this last...a whole game or just the first half?

Marbury has never in his entire career left a team, without that team suddenly having a very obvious and measurable improvement as soon as the door closes behind him.
Somehow I don't think the next team he graces with his dubious presence is going to be the exception. I can only hope fervently that this team won't be the Clippers.
If he is about to suddenly develop humility, it sure hasn't been obvious in any recent media reports, or in the way he took it upon himself to fly back to New York from Phoenix last November, leaving the team in a snit apparently because he wasn't scheduled to start. And then, of course, saying that he had enough dirt on Isiah that he couldn't possibly get into any real trouble no matter what he chose to do.
Also, just remembering the testimony about him in the harrassment trial still makes my hair stand on end.
No Clippers uniform for Marbury --- please, please.
There must be a better way to handle this. Pretty well anything is a better way to handle this.

Do you have to pay J-Wills contract? (i think insurance covers this stuff) but does it still go on your cap? That would be really crappy.
What tha' There's a hair on the court,

I just think he would not have the whole media attention/mess of a organization that was the Knicks franchise. Since he will not get signed to any huge contract or have a huge role (on the Clipps), he would not have the attention that was on him when he was a Knick. In fact, I don't think any team will sign him unless they know that he will not have problems with being a headcase as he did with the Knicks. He still has a pretty decent game for a PG.

Wow I'm totally shocked. I know that I'm a bit late but my internet hasn't been working at home all weekend. If J Will felt like he might retire then why sign with us in the first place. Well we have to look else where and now another roster spot opens up.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

^^ Sorry DT. I know J-Will is yo boy and all. My guess is on naggin injuries that wouldn't allow J-Will to heal properly. Given the sudden reason to retire. He will be missed from the pros.

This is true, but I think that those teams primarily benefited from adding a much better fit at point guard (Kidd, Nash, and Brandon when he was healthy). Having a player with Marbury's talent coming off the bench would be a plus imo.

The problem is that he could be a huge distraction and impede not only the chemistry of the team, but the progress of the younger guys. The coaches are already likely to have their hands full with some of the other headstrong players, and adding another could make it a volatile environment. I like the guy and I'm rooting for him to turn it around, but I don't think it would be worth the risk to take him on here.
