Tonight's Simpsons Episode

Post#1 » by thanumba2clippersfan » Mon Dec 8, 2008 2:10 am

So it's Sunday night and I'm just trying to relax before my classes tomorrow. This Simpsons episode had an NBA theme to it. Towards the end of this episode there is a big Center from the North Pole. A killer bee has Burns and he is flying away. Burns asks the big Center to help him. The big guy jumps but is unsuccessful in pulling down Burns.

Up to this point I thought the episode was pretty entertaining, until the Center said this "This beats playing for the Clippers"

It's bad enough when you have TV shows taking shots at you. All of you people on the west coast will get to see this episode. If I can find a link to this part of the episode I'll posted. I'm just not happy with the Simpsons right now.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

How long have you been a Clippers fan? The Clippers have been the butt of jokes in the media for as long as I've been a fan. This season just re-affirms it. This stuff doesn't bother me anymore. Maybe it would've bothered be when I was a relatively new fan in my teens 9 years ago but I've been following this abomination of a franchise for far too long. It's made me quite jaded.

I'm a big Clippers fan as any but they are and have always been a horrible, horrible franchise worthy of being bashed except for 2 or so years in the last 2 decades. They haven't won enough games to fix any of this...so they deserve it and we should all just take it because we should get a psychiatric examination for liking this team.

I haven't watched the Simpsons in like 8 years either.

I had a feeling that I would get a response like that.

I don't think this is the first time the Simpsons have made fun of the Clippers-- I've seen my fair share of episodes, let's go with...mm, all of them...and I pretty clearly remember them taking jabs at the Clips at least once before. Don't remember the context or the episode...but I think its happened before. Wouldn't bet against it.

And I hate to bring up that damn Will Ferrell movie, the one with Nicole Kidman...
"I'm a witch."
"Yeah, and I'm a Clippers fan."

Unlike Guyv, I'm not immune to it, I feel it when people take shots at my team. One of my professors, in a class of about 200, makes comparisons between the Clippers and lakers all the time-- needless to say, he ain't so nice to the Clippers.

It's hard out there, man.

I have never seen The Simpsons (although my sons have enjoyed it in the past) but if this is what passes for humor on the show, taking broad potshots at easy targets, I am not inclined to take up watching it now.
I enjoy TV that makes me laugh, but that involves wit instead of this kind of thing.

^ I dunno, I think the Simpsons has a nice balance of both crude and intelligent humor-- I think that's what makes it appealing to such a broad audience (it has been on TV since 1987, so I think it's doing something right.) Like tonight, Homer was making fun of bees for being haploid-celled organisms, instead of diploids like humans.

In context, the Clippers comment came as a sort of afterthought. Subtle to all except us, I guess :D

I catch the Simpsons every once in a while, but it's no longer must see TV for me. I read what it was going to be about on the TV guide and was kind of interested, but had more important things to do at the time so I ended up missing it. Clippers getting dissed on TV is really nothing new. We've been the butt of many Jay Leno jokes over the years. Numerous TV shows have poked fun over the years as well. I'm used to it, but it still gets my goat. We need one of the players to pull a Johnnie Morton on 'em.

Yeah, it seems nowadays like a Clipper dis on TV is nothing new. It's not that hurtful to me, since I hear stuff like this every day from friends anyways...

^That's exactly how I feel, no matter how bad they get I can't stop following them.
