Trade/Waive - What's the deal?
Why did we trade for Hassan Adams only to waive him in the same day? Memphis did the same thing with Livingson.
What is this all about? Gotta be some stupid salary cap rule. I hope they get rid of it someday, it just makes teams make dumb decisions.

Basically, we sold our 2016 2nd round pick for a mil.

Did Memphis cut Livingston? They did cut Darius, maybe you got the 2 confused? As someone else said, we basically sold a draft pick.
EDIT- Just saw the new headline about Livingston waived. Weird. The Livingston trade also involved cash considerations, so perhaps the same kind of trade as this one. Miami was also up against the cap and I guess wanted to clear Livingston's salary.
And I don't hope the salary cap goes away, if it did the Clippers would have even less chance of building a winner than they do now.

Re: Trade/Waive - What's the deal?
To break it down....
Toronto was slightly over the luxury tax limit so trading away Adams puts Toronto back under and allows them to avoid paying any luxury tax.
The Cash considerations Toronto is sending to LAC is probably enough to cover Adam's remaining salary. So it doesn't cost the Clippers a penny.
The pick is conditional and heavily protected (something outrageous like top 58 protected), so Toronto is never going to see that pick.
Basically, LAC did Toronto a favor which didn't cost them a penny or a pick.

Guys, guys, guys.
Bryan Colangelo fleeced a future second rounder from you, for Hassan Adams. But BC didn't tell Dunleavy that Hassan is on house arrest, and can't leave his home in Toronto or the team hotel/arena when on the road until July. And before the deal went down, BC said "No trade-backs" and Dunleavy said "Okay.". So I guess Dunleavy found out that Hassan couldn't even come over and spark a resurgence in your season, so he just waived his ass outright.

Just like in politics, the team that spends the most usually DOESN'T win. Just look at the Knicks.
I'm all for getting rid of the cap and all its stupid rules. Let teams do whatever they want. Don't worry, the Lakers won't end up with all the best players (oh wait, they already do.)

If that were true then Memphis wouldn't have traded for, then cut Livingston. There's more to this.

I understand that- look at the Yankees.
But I'm afraid the Clippers would turn into a farm team like the old Montreal Expos. (oh wait, they already are.

The pick doesn't really exist; it's protected in such a way to ensure that the Clippers never have to give it up. We receive nothing at all.

**** your asterisk.

Geez, thanks for ruining the joke and what little fun I was having Schad.

No, the Clippers aren't that fickle. They didn't just go and trade for Hassan Adams in the morning and waive him at noon for no reason. Well, they did, but it's for a pretty good reason.
In between completing the trade for Adams, which basically cost them nothing (a conditional second round pick in 2015 so protected it'll likely never change hands), and waiving Adams, the club learned that Fred Jones was healthy enough to play in Thursday's game against San Antonio.
So the choice became Adams --a player the team liked, but who would need some time to learn the system -- or Jones, who had played well for them before hurting his foot on Sunday and being waived Monday.
The team chose Jones. The team is expected to sign him to a 10-day contract in the morning and he should be on the court tommorrow night.
``We were just hedging our bets on Fred's injury,'' assistant general manager Neil Olshey said. ``He'd played well for us, and if he was healthy, we felt comfortable putting him out on the court tommorrow.''

So let me get this right, a Raptor player hurts our go to number one option in Z-Bo and the franchise then turns arond and helps the Raps get under the tax.
I've heard of it all being business but didn't we file tapes against their player a week ago?

I'm glad that Fred Jones is back. We only had Mardy and Gordon as our guards in our last game.
