They waived Fred Jones because he sucks AND because he was injured.

I'm dazed right now. I have no idea what Dumbleavy has in store, but it seems he's on a power trip. If a trade is gonna happen, we'd better get some extra nice pieces for Camby, otherwise I'll rip my hair out.

I'm disappointed. I liked Paul Davis, he was always consistent and had a nice 15 footer. Without him we have no backup Center.

I have no idea what's in store, I don't want Q though. We need stars, no more mediocre players.

I guess now all we can do is play the waiting game.

Then later we bitch about whatever move Dunleavy makes.

I think a different trade is in the works, not involving the Knicks or Blazers. But hey, what do I know...

From Ramona:

After a little bit of checking, I think I can shed a little more light on the events of today.

Basically, today's moves were made to create a bit of flexibility before cut-down day on Jan. 7.

The Clippers would've waited until tommorrow to do it, but it's just not cool to drag guys out to Dallas, play them in a game when both have some minor dings, and then cut them in the morning.

Also, it gives the Clippers a chance to see who else around the NBA gets cut today and tommorrow and see the best direction to go. That said, it now sounds unlikely the team will sign a new point guard from the group I mentioned earlier (Eddie Gill, Damon Stoudemire, Walker Russell and Troy Hudson) this afternoon.

It is far more likely the team will wait a couple days to evaluate what's out there.

Fred Jones has 48 hours to clear waivers, then can sign with any team in the league. The Clippers would like to have him back. But they needed to create a little flexibility before the seventh, since they have 15 guys on the roster.

I'm told it's far more likely Jones will be back with the team than Davis, even though the Clippers like Davis and would like to have kept him around. He just got caught in a numbers game, and on a team where point guards have been dropping like flies.

Well that sucks. I liked Paul. :( I hope he finds a roster spot somewhere else if we don't get him back. Sucks for Jones too.

I find this totally bizarre.
But it should be an interesting couple of days coming up.
I'll have to check the board even more often than usual.
But what, are we going to have seven healthy players to put in the rotation in Dallas??? Or six perhaps?

I don't understand this move, I really hope a trade doesn't happen.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Maybe a 3 for 1 involving Baron. Or 2 for 1 since we have Samb.

You know what this seems like? A game. Like NBA Live, or fantasy sports. Blowing a team up, getting all new players, signing guys, waiving guys... and we haven't even reached the half way mark of the season.

I just don't understand what the reasoning behind this move is. I really don't. They kept Paul Davis instead of Josh Powell, and then they waive him? Sign a decent player just to waive him a few games later? Is this a sign of a blockbuster trade?

He is only signed to a 10 day contract, so what does this mean? Because contracts are guaranteed saturday, does it mean that he is really signed for the year, or is he actually only signed for 10 days, and then the clippers can resign him after that?

One thing it might mean is that they expect a couple of "injury" guys to return to the team within 10 days so the bench isn't so ridiculously, embarrassingly depleted.
I'm not sure why they would expect that, but we certainly aren't being kept au courant with what's going on behind the scenes, so who knows what is possible.

Jones is that glue guy we desperately needed since Ricky has been a disappearing act all season. I can seriously see him off the bench with Taylor, Kaman and Collins and actually keep us in the game instead of take us out of it. Hope this kid gets the opportunity to prove his worth on this team.
