Clippers Apparently In Amare Sweepstakes

Post#1 » by ClipperDomination » Sun Feb 15, 2009 11:02 pm

From the wiretap:

Blazers And Bulls Have Best Shot At Amare, Clippers Also In It

Feb 15, 2009 5:52 PM EST

One NBA general manager said Portland and Chicago have the best chance to land Amare Stoudemire, while Memphis is also a contender. Other suitors reportedly include Cleveland, Detroit, and the Clippers.

"There's a lot of rumors about Chicago," said Stoudemire, 26. "A lot of rumors about Cleveland, Miami. Any situation for any team I go to, I bring a lot to the table."

I'm guessing a package around Thornton and a big?

If we wound up getting Amare wouldn't he just leave once his contract is up. I also remember that back when he was in the draft we could have drafted him 8th or what ever spot we had be he said that he would refuse to play for us. So we drafted Wilcox instead
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

What #2 said. I never heard about Amare refusing to play here, but it seems likely. The point is, he'd just leave ASAP anyway. I guess the question then becomes, who can we get more out of in a short time, Amare or Al (if the package indeed involves Thornton). The truth is, we are probably a long, long, long shot as it goes with landing Amare. Even if weren't the "Clippers" everyone stereotypes us as, why would the Suns settle for trading Amare within the division? Unless we're offering a ridiculously generous deal, I don't see this happening.

I had never heard of STAT refusing to play for us either, but I could totally see it being true. I do like the fact that we are active and are putting our names in the basket one of the league's top talents. For me it would all depend on what & who we were giving up, since we'd likely only have him for one solid season.

i do remember what he did. Amare was scheduled to work out for us when we had the 8th pick but PHX promised him if he was available at the #9 they would select him.. Days before the draft they asked Amare to come work out for us. and the clippers sources said he had faked an injury so he was a no show. so we got wilcox
