Jose Calderon (what would you give up)

Post#1 » by Rapsobsessed7 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:39 am

Since we adapting a new run and gun style of play i believe Baron fits that bill. Jose has a lot more value than Baron because of his contract and hes simply better. So would you guys do something on the lines of.

Calderon
Kapono
Cash(3 million, Miami)

For

Davis
2nd Overall Pick

I dont think its so far fetched because of having Gordon and not needing Harden, having Vast amounts of big men and not needed Griffen.

Baron Davis $11,250,000 $12,100,000 $13,000,000 $13,900,000 $14,750,000
Jose Calderon $7,438,017 $8,219,008 $9,000,000 $9,780,992 $10,561,983

You save basically 4 million a year, 20 million overall, hes two years younger than Baron and can guide a team better in the half court. Kapono is a 2011 expiring to go along with Randolph, you would still have a lot of big men but i think you guys could then acquire Jefferson+Sweetener for Thorton+Camby. Jefferson is again a 2011 expiring so gives you even more cap space. Buy a late pick with the money, draft Derozan

Calderon/Collins
Gordon/Kapono
Jefferson/Derozan
Randolph/Skinner
Kaman/Jordan

+ the bucks sweetener, maybe they include Charlie V in a sign and trade but who knows thats something else but anyways is that something you would do. If push came to shove and we made the playoffs i would give you our pick 15th overall but i dont think a lottery pick+Calderon for Davis+2nd overall is fair value for Calderon because of Davis' contract. If it wasent a lottery pick i would put it in and keep the cash but is this something with merit and you would consider it?

Are you really asking for the 2nd overall pick? Meaning our first rounder? I could see us giving up a 2nd round pick, but this deal is terrible.

First of all, that offer is a joke, cause there's no way we'd trade the #2 pick for a package involving Jose Calderon and Jason Kapono.

I also wouldn't even trade for Calderon.
I just don't see him as an elite pg in this league. Yeah, sure, he's got some nice stats, but he couldn't defend a chair, if his life would depend(not that Baron's a great defender, but he, at least, could defend some) on it and he can't lift the Raptors on top of the eastern conference, even with a guy like Chris Bosh on his team.
To me, he's a nice player that has some nice numbers, but i just don't get the feeling, that he's someone you could really built your team around(he still has about $38 mil left on his contract) and expect to compete for more then, say, a first round exit in the playoffs.

So if we're to trade Baron, i'd just(or rather) trade him for an expiring(or something close to it) and see if i can find a guard that fits next to Eric Gordon(which, could even be someone like James Harden) with my draft picks.

Baron for Calderon/Kapono

Baron will play better the rest of the year, and boost his trade value this offseason.

Nothing because I don't want him. What we need is an upgrade at SF.

well heres what i think.

Calderon
Kapono
# 8

For

Baron
#2

you get a 2011 expiring contract to go along with randolph than you package Camby+Thorton to the bucks for jefferson ive seen bucks fans agree to this so this would be your final depth chart. Buy a late pick and draft hansbrough

Calderon/Teague(8th Pick)
Gordon/Kapono
Jefferson/Davis
Randolph/Hansbrough/Skinner
Kaman/Jordan

That looks like a playoff team to me so is that something you guys consider?

Let me say sorry on behalf of the Raps nation. Posters like these above do not represent the majority of fans; let alone the fact that he has over 1k posts in less than a year.

you speak for the raptors fan base buddy? i dont know who the **** you are or why your responding to this but hey if you read the raptors board you will see a lot of them are interested in Baron for Jose+Kapono plus a pick swap. So if you dont feel your going to contribute anything positive how about dont post at all? Theres an old saying if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all that applies to you. Also you do not represent the majority of the fans, because you joined 3 years ealier and hardly post that means your superior to me? I post more important things that relate to raptor topics you hardly post you voice your little opinion and thats about all you contribute ask anyone on our board, i always post articles and such dont try to undermine me, your not better than me even if you did join 3 years ago. Also 700 posts in 4 years and you speak for more of the raptor fan base than me, i dont think so i havent seen you contribute **** on our board, i know most posters but i dont know you. If your not going to give constructive criticism on what i posted than dont waste your oh so precious time and post

if clippers are giving up a potential franchise player with the 2nd pick they'd want at least a young borderline superstar back

I wouldn't pull the strings on this trade. Is Calderon really that much an improvement over Teague/Mardy/Taylor? No, I don't think so.

Kapono would be good to have even without the #8 pick...so do something like this instead:

Kapono/Parker (s/t)/2nd rounder

for

Baron

You can then leverage Calderon/#8 to Dallas for Josh Howard/Barrea.... Howard would replace Marion who you really should not look to re-sign.

done, thats a good deal and hopefully package Jose for either a high pick or impact wing but good deal. Only thing is we dont have a second rounder and also we would be in tax maybe if you took hump too?
